DEDICATED OUTREACH EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Bahçeşehir University (BAU) actively engages in dedicated outreach educational activities aimed at supporting the wider community, including alumni, local residents, and displaced people, as part of its commitment to sustainable development. The university organizes various programs, workshops, and training sessions that address environmental, social, and economic challenges, aiming to foster community development and awareness.
1.Support for University Students Affected by War from Bahçeşehir University
Bahçeşehir University (BAU) is committed to fulfilling its responsibility in providing educational opportunities for students displaced due to the war, recognizing the importance of ensuring their education continues despite the hardships they face. In line with its mission of excellence in societal benefit and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), BAU is offering free education for university students displaced by the war in Ukraine, based on the availability of space in its programs.
Students who have been displaced due to the ongoing conflict and wish to continue their education will be offered the opportunity to enroll as guest students at BAU at no cost. These students will be able to continue their university education or begin new studies under this special status, allowing them to pursue their academic goals without financial burden.
Guest students will be provided with tuition-free education. The process of acceptance and course selection for these students will be based on the recommendation of the relevant academic department or program, with final approval by the dean’s office or directorate. Upon completion of their education students will receive a certificate of completion detailing the courses they attended and their grades.
Graduate students applying as guest students will have their acceptance and courses determined by the recommendation of the relevant graduate department chair or coordinator, and by decision of the graduate school board. Additionally, these students will receive documentation of their completed courses and achievements. Students accepted into graduate programs as guest students can transfer up to four of their completed courses, subject to approval by the relevant graduate department and graduate school board.

2.TUITION-FREE EDUCATION SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR HOMES AND BEEN DISPLACED DUE TO THE EARTHQUAKE
We understand the importance of continuing education for students who have lost their families and have been displaced due to the devastating earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, which have affected multiple provinces. From the very first day, we have been committed to supporting those who have suffered from this tragedy. Our primary goal is to ensure the continuity of education for students affected by the earthquake in our country.
In line with this, starting from March 6, 2023, for the Spring semester, we will offer tuition-free education in special student status, depending on the availability of spaces in practical courses, to students enrolled in universities located in the affected provinces or those who have first-degree relatives residing in these provinces but are enrolled in universities elsewhere. We kindly request that students take the language of instruction of the program into consideration when applying. The courses will be conducted in person.
As Bahçeşehir University, we are committed to doing everything in our power during this extraordinary period to help students overcome this challenging time, and we will work together to heal.
3- BAU-GO ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL, AND ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
This certificate program provides examples and insights into the principles and practices of sustainable development, focusing on the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability. It also includes comprehensive knowledge essential for addressing the environmental, social, and economic challenges of the 21st century within the framework of sustainability. Through this certificate program, participants will gain a unique experience and a deeper understanding of sustainability awareness.
The sustainability training, consisting of 12 modules and 99 sections, designed by BAU academics, aims to provide a fundamental understanding of the SDGs by addressing the topic from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
4- BAU- TURKEY MINISTRY OF YOUTH AND SPORTS -UNICEF-NETFLIX ORGANIZED TRAINING AND FILM JAM EVENT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THE FEBRUARY 6, 2023 EARTHQUAKE IN GAZİANTEP
With the support of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Youth and Sports, Bahçeşehir University organized Film Jam Training and Event at GENÇ ALAN, the youth center established by Netflix and UNICEF in the Nurdağı (GAZİANTEP) Region, one of the regions most affected by the devastating earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023.
In the short film shooting marathon organized with the participation of young people in the region and lasting for three days, Bahçeşehir University Cinema and Television Department academics carried out training activities with the support of Cinema and Television Department students. As part of the event, young people in the region received cinema training and shot three short films.
Bahçeşehir University academics and volunteer students supported the project with the training they provided in the project, which was implemented with the aim of supporting the social and educational rehabilitation and capacity development of young people in the region where thousands of people died and survivors lost their homes and education centers in February 2023 in Turkey.
At the end of the theoretical and practical training, short films shot by young people in the earthquake region were also screened.
5- BAU ALUMNI FEST on SUSTAINABILITY
In this event attended by Bahçeşehir University Alumni, CIFAL Istanbul and CIFAL Istanbul Youth Platform aimed to provide information and raise awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
In this event, the participants were asked to answer questions about the Sustainable Development Goals and in this way, information was given about each sustainable development goal. Information was also provided about the CIFAL Istanbul Youth Platform.
6- SDGS AND BEYOND: SDG 4 REFLECTIONS AND EXPERIENCES ON QUALITY EDUCATION (Open Panel)
On 23.10.2023, at the event “SDGs and Beyond: Reflections and Experiences on SDG 4 Quality Education” on 23.10.2023, participants shared their thoughts and experiences on quality education in the context of sustainable development goals. Suggestions for improving quality in education were presented and future steps were discussed.
7- SDGS AND BEYOND: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE SDGS ON THE ROAD TO 2030 (Open Panel)
The event addressed the challenges and opportunities for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNTAR Director Alex Meija discussed the current barriers to SDG implementation and the strategies needed to achieve them.
Participants exchanged ideas on how to realize the SDGs more effectively by 2030, emphasizing the need to develop innovative solutions and collaborations to overcome barriers to sustainable development. The event provided an important platform to identify the next steps for the SDGs.
8- BRIDGING THE GAP: BAU CO-OP RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAM FOR EQUAL ACCESS TO QUALITY EDUCATION: Capacity Building for High School Students
Bahçeşehir University has started to run an education program for high school students studying at Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions in the 2023 academic year with the CO-OP Responsiblity program in order to support equal opportunities in education and to help to build quality education outside the campus.
At Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions, talented children who do not have a father and/or mother alive, who are in financial difficulty, study with full scholarships and boarding for eight years from the 5th grade until they graduate from high school.
Bahçeşehir University's expert academicians designed a 14-week education program for students studying at Darüşşafaka High School in the BAU CO-OP Responsiblity program under different headings such as artificial intelligence, sustainability and climate crisis, ethical communication, and cyber security awareness.
The trainings are also carried out in cooperation with the United Nations Institute for Education and Research, CIFAL Istanbul center, and students are also able to receive BAU- UNITAR-approved certificates.

9- BAHÇEŞEHİR UNIVERSITY PART-TIME CHILDREN'S CONSERVATORY OPENED IN ORDU-GIRESUN
The Part-Time Children's Conservatory, which started operating at Ordu-Giresun Enver Yücel Primary and Secondary School Campus in the Black Sea region under the consultancy of Bahçeşehir University Conservatory, opened with a concert by famous artists Ümit Tokcan, Erdal Erzincan, Yurdal Tokcan and Erman Türkili.
The education program will be provided to 4th and 5th grade primary and secondary school students in the children's conservatory created by Bahçeşehir University academics for a total of 28 weeks of education in one year, and talented students will receive a certificate at the end of four years of uninterrupted education.
The program, which started its activities in October 2023, aims to contribute to the spread of sustainable cities and communities and quality education as the first children's conservatory launched by a university in the Black Sea region.

10- BAU EQUAL OPPORTUNITY IN TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM WITH YAPI KREDI BANK and UNITAR (Free Education for Women)
The Equal Opportunity in Technology Program was organized to ensure gender equality in technology and to contribute to women assuming more active and powerful roles in technology. Within the scope of the program, experts in the field have created a 14-course program as an introduction to women's technology education.
In addition, guidance and mentoring for women who want to pursue a career in technology will be offered within the program. Participants had the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills thanks to the intensive program on different topics. The program was evaluated as an important step to create equal opportunities in the technology sector and strengthen the presence of women in this field.

11- STEP AMBASSADORS TO DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY PROGRAMME
The aim of the event, organised in cooperation with Yapı Kredi and Bahçeşehir University, was to draw attention to sustainability goals and to take steps in this direction. In the course organised to explore sustainability in all its aspects, 16 topics were discussed in 16 sessions.
At the end of the event; it was aimed to understand sustainable development goals, raise awareness about the climate crisis, learn about the measures that can be taken to reduce carbon footprint, encourage participants to take action, and gain critical thinking and problem solving skills.
12- BAU BRIDGE SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION CERTİFİCATE PROGRAMME (Free Program)
This programme consists of five main parts and related objectives.
1) Sustainability, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), learning the basic concepts and basic theoretical discussions on their subjects
2) To learn the debates and new conceptual perspectives on changing social conditions during and after the Covid-19 process.
3) To learn the basic concepts and basic theoretical debates on agriculture and sustainability, sustainable urban life, migration and social cohesion in the context of the ‘New Normal’.
4) Learn the debates and new conceptual perspectives on sustainability and crime
5) Gains knowledge and analytical skills related to project development and writing stages, project implementation and report preparation processes in the field of sustainability. Also to learn about Fund Utilisation and stakeholder management.
