ENG1003 course is designed for students whose medium of instruction is English in order to develop their academic language skills they may need throughout their academic and professional lives. While the course aims to enhance students’ critical thinking skills, it subsumes content that constitutes the cornerstones of the academic world such as reading and analyzing academic texts, developing academic vocabulary, paraphrasing, summarizing, quoting and referencing. In terms of content, the course is implemented by utilizing materials that entail contemporary topics which are collaboratively prepared by the instructors of the Department of Modern Languages with the primary purpose of fulfilling the needs of the students. This course is 3 credits and planned to be 2 hours theoretical (synchronous) and 2 hours practice-based (asynchronous).
ENG1004
ENG1004 course is designed for students whose medium of instruction is English in order to develop their academic language skills they may need throughout their academic and professional lives. Besides utilizing the knowledge they acquired in the ENG 1003 course, the students focus on synthesizing the information drawn from various sources by evaluating their reliability and using that information to support their arguments in their writing. In terms of content, the course is implemented by utilizing materials that entail contemporary topics which are collaboratively prepared by the instructors of the Department of Modern Languages with the primary purpose of fulfilling the needs of the students. This course is 3 credits and planned to be 2 hours theoretical (synchronous) and 2 hours practice-based (asynchronous).
* There is no prerequisite for ENG 1004. However, this course is designed to be a continuation of ENG 1003.

This course is designed for students who need to improve their English language skills for university-level course work. The course is mostly content-based with an emphasis on developing the four main language skills; reading, writing, Listening and speaking. The main emphasis is on improving students’ skills and confidence in using English for such purposes as: reading field-related academic texts, reporting information from sources using the conventions of academic writing, understanding spoken language in a university setting and expressing oneself effectively. The course also has a focus on developing higher order thinking skills such as reflective thinking, critical thinking, evaluating the reliability of information provided in a text and synthesizing information from various sources to support an argument.
ENG1104
This course is designed for students who need to improve their English language skills for university-level course work. The course has a dual emphasis. First, it aims at improving students’ skills and confidence in using English for purposes such as reading field-related academic texts and reporting information from sources using the conventions of academic writing at essay level. It also aims at equipping the students with the basic skills that will help deliver effective presentations in various academic and professional settings, understand spoken language in a university setting and express themselves effectively. Being an application course, it is practice-oriented and aims at providing opportunities for students to gain experience and confidence in delivering presentations. The course also aims at helping students develop critical thinking skills by providing opportunities for peer-evaluation and self-reflection on performance as a presenter.
