Harezmi Educational Model Development Project
Harezmi Educational Model Development Project was conducted with the cooperation of İstanbul Provincial MONE (Ministry of National Education) and BAU Educational Sciences Faculty. The project has been conducted at k-12 schools in Istanbul with approximately 200 schools, 1000 teachers and 5000 students. With the support of the government, the piloting has been done with various schools in 13 districts around Turkey. Harezmi Education Model has 7 basic principles, which have been developed within the last 3 years with the support of the BAU Faculty of Educational Sciences. The principles are as follows:
1. Interdisciplinarity: There are at least one from three different discipline (IT, Science/ Mathematics, Social Sciences, etc.).
2. One is selected from five basic grounds. Information processing and computer use; programming teaching tools; interdisciplinary approach; social sciences and IT teaching with robotic and game design.
3. Participation of all stakeholders (academicians, experts, parents, etc.) is ensured.
4. Problems within life are determined by teachers and students.
5. The process is carried out with scientific research methods.
6. Course plans and applications are constantly updated.
7. Experience-sharing meetings between teachers are held.
Teachers are engaged in training programs and they prepare, implement and update their lesson plans based on the 7 principles. The problems in selected themes such as recycling, environment is determined with the students, and are designed with the support of other disciplines. The measurement is done with the combination of product and process during which the teachers learn from each other and collaborate with each other. Parents, academicians and experts are also involved in this process.
Following the proposal of the model for the Transition to Secondary Education, a conference hosted by Bahçeşehir University under the leadership of Bahçeşehir College was held and the concerned subject was evaluated in the presence of experts.
