Program Name: Design, Innovation and Environmental Issues
Program Description
It is a programme that can raise awareness on design, innovation, and environmental awareness, enable students to orientate towards these fields, and aid academic research.
Application Conditions
To be a BAU student. During undergraduate education, to choose the courses specified below and to get at least B+ success letter from these courses.
Program Courses
GEP0211 Urban and Landscape
Within the scope of this course; it is aimed to give basic knowledge about public open spaces to all students, to increase their awareness about the environment they live in, and to examine the social and physical dimensions of public space usage in terms of urban-landscape.
GEP0314 Innovation and Creativity
This course aims to introduce innovation and creativity as a way of solving problems. The course is geared towards developing a more critical innovative and creative thinking style. Various innovation examples and creativity methods are introduced and practiced in class. Student are expected to participate activelly in in the classroom. Students will need to solve various excersises and create solutions in class. Students will receive homeworks that they need to deliver and present in class.
GEP0201 City and Culture
The relationship between city and culture (from ancient period to today) will be analysed in terms of the transformation of cities. The effect of globalisation on the transformation and change of today's cities, the consumption society created by the globalisation process and the act of consuming will be questioned. The effort to create a brand city and the emphasis on cultural values in this process will also be discussed. The concept of sustainability, which emerged as an action against consumption, will be discussed in the context of its impact on urban development. In the context of the mentioned conceptual framework, the city of Istanbul will be discussed.
