Basic Medical Sciences Research Laboratories
MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY RESEARCH LABORATORY
Infectious diseases are a group of diseases that are widespread around the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that approximately one third of all deaths worldwide are caused by infectious diseases. The agents of infectious diseases are various microbes such as bacteria, viruses, prions, fungi and protozoa. Successful treatment of infectious diseases requires the isolation and identification of the disease-causing microbes from the patient's clinical samples (etiological diagnosis) and the in vitro investigation of drugs effective against that microbe. The Medical Microbiology Laboratory will shape the medicine of the future by producing research in this field.
MEDICAL BIOLOGY-GENETICS RESEARCH LABORATORY
The Medical Biology-Genetics Laboratory produces projects on cell biology and genetics. Studies are carried out on cellular degeneration/regeneration in diseases, cytogenetic analyses in cell culture, chromosome analyses, DNA isolation and PCR applications, polymorphism studies, gene expression level analyses, sequence analyses and microbial genetics.
HISTOLOGY AND EMBRYOLOGY RESEARCH LABORATORY
Using the techniques below, the Histology Research Laboratory conducts research on Regenerative Medicine,, Oxidative Stress,, Reproductive Biology and Infertility,, Neuroscience, and the Cardiovascular System.
BIOPHYSICS RESEARCH LABORATORY:
The Biophysics Laboratory conducts research mainly in regenerative medicine, tissue engineering and drug delivery systems, and works on the production and development of materials for these purposes. Our core research topics are scaffold designs aimed at the partial or complete production of different tissues and organs such as bone, muscle, cartilage, blood vessels, nerves and skin, and at improving their biological functions, using natural protein-based structures or developing alternative synthetic materials.
