Neuro-Oncology Laboratory
It is a multidisciplinary research laboratory that investigates the formation mechanisms, biological characteristics and treatment responses of brain and spinal cord tumors. The laboratory examines the molecular structure of central nervous system tumors such as glioblastoma, astrocytoma, meningioma and metastatic brain tumors, revealing the genetic, epigenetic and cellular mechanisms involved in the development of these diseases. Through analyses performed on tumor tissues and cell cultures, it aims to identify biomarkers, develop early diagnosis methods and contribute to personalized treatment approaches.
The laboratory also investigates cancer stem cells, the tumor microenvironment, interactions between the immune system and tumors, and the mechanisms that cause treatment resistance. New chemotherapeutic agents, targeted therapies, immunotherapy approaches and experimental drug candidates are evaluated using cell culture and advanced molecular biology methods. Tumor biology is studied in detail through gene expression analyses, DNA and RNA sequencing, protein analyses, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and high-resolution imaging techniques.
By combining basic science research with clinical practice, the Neuro-Oncology Laboratory conducts scientific studies aimed at earlier diagnosis of brain tumors, the development of more effective and safer treatment methods, and improving patients' survival and quality of life. It also contributes to the advancement of scientific knowledge in neuro-oncology by supporting interdisciplinary research projects, national and international collaborations and graduate education activities.
