Since Bahçeşehir University is an English medium educational institution, all undergraduate students are required to complete the English Preparatory Program successfully. Students who have received a satisfactory score from one of the exams that is recognized by Bahçeşehir University as being equivalent to the Bahçeşehir University English Proficiency Examination are exempt from the English Preparatory Program.
All new undergraduate students including those who will be studying in a program where medium of instruction is not English but wish to study English are required to take the English Placement Exam on September 16, 2021, Thursday. Students who achieve a net score of 30 out of 60 in this exam will be eligible to take the English Proficiency Examination. In order to be exempt from the English Preparatory Program, students are required to get a minimum score of 60 (sixty) in the English Proficiency Exam. For students of the Department of English Language Teaching and Faculty of Medicine, the minimum passing grade required is 80 (eighty) out of 100 (one hundred).
ENGLISH PLACEMENT EXAM
Bahçeşehir University 2021-2022 Academic Year English Placement Exam will be administered ONLINE on September 16, 2021, Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for newly registered international students.
Exam format: The exam is made up of 60 multiple choice questions and assesses grammar and reading skills. (Please visit the website of BAU SFL to access sample questions for the English Placement Exam: https://bau.edu.tr/content/3984-prep-school-sample-exams)
Exam duration: The exam will last 75 minutes. Your time starts when you start the exam any time between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and finishes 75 minutes later.
Exam venue: The English Placement Exam will be conducted ONLINE on Microsoft Teams.
1 (one) point is deducted for every four incorrect answers.

Please visit the website and follow the step-by-step instructions beforehand in order not to have any problems on the exam day.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY EXAM
Students who achieve a minimum score of 30 (out of 60) in the ONLINE English Placement Exam will become eligible to sit the English Proficiency Exam which will be conducted ON-CAMPUS (Face-to-face) on September 22 Wednesday. The exam will be administered at Besiktas South and North campuses and BAU Future Campus located in Kemerburgaz. The SPEAKING part of the exam will also be conducted ON-CAMPUS on the same day. Students who achieve less than 30 (out of 60) in the English Placement Exam (September 16) and those who failed in the English Proficiency Exam (September 22) are placed in an appropriate level in the English Preparatory Program based on the results of their English Placement Exam. Classes start for English Preparatory Program students on October 4, 2021, Monday.
