BAU Medicine in Numbers

Having admitted its first 40 students in 2013, the Faculty of Medicine was the faculty of medicine chosen by the top-ranked student in Türkiye in the LYS exam in its first year. It is the only faculty of medicine in Türkiye that recruits its faculty members by taking the H-index criterion into account. BAU Medicine has an academic staff with one of the highest numbers of publications. The Education and Research Buildings have a total of 22 laboratories, and Bahçeşehir University Private Göztepe Medical Park Research and Application Hospital, where students receive their training, has 100 outpatient clinic rooms, 12 operating rooms and a capacity of 353 beds.

The total area of the Göztepe Campus, consisting of the Education, Research and Hospital Complex, is 55,000 m2. It has a 15,000-square-meter Advanced Medical Research Center and more than 20 laboratories with international connections. The BAU Medicine Advisory Board, which guides students throughout their medical education, consists of 17 world-renowned scientists. Students who joined the BAU Medicine family in 2013 are guided by 40 life mentors who are leading figures in various fields in Türkiye. At least two national/international events are organized every month within the Faculty of Medicine alone. In this way, our students have the opportunity to gain knowledge in different fields and expand their networks at approximately 25 events a year. At BAU Medicine, which has its own unique curriculum, the academic year consists of 21 weeks rather than 14, unlike other faculties of medicine.

BAU Medicine, a research-oriented medical school, is a faculty of medicine that aims, in line with its innovative education and research goals, to make Turkish medicine a global brand. Carefully selecting its students, BAU Medicine aims to train the Nobel Prize-winning scientists and physicians of the future who will develop treatments for the diseases of tomorrow, approach their patients with understanding and dedication, and provide high-quality healthcare. To this end, it has developed a new curriculum unique to the faculty that has introduced many firsts in Türkiye. The curriculum, prepared by the Advisory Board, which includes faculty members and administrators from some of the world's most renowned universities, and by BAU Medicine's academic staff selected according to the H-index criterion, is one of the key features that distinguish BAU Faculty of Medicine. The language of instruction at our faculty is English.

At BAU Faculty of Medicine, which set out to train medical doctors and scientists who possess the qualities and skills of scientific thinking and perceive medicine as a way of life beyond a profession:

• The number of publications per faculty member was 1.58 in 2016-2017. (The average in Türkiye is below 0.50.)
• The average H-index of the professors among BAU Medicine faculty members is 15.37. (The average in Türkiye for this index is below 7.)
• As a result of the importance BAU Faculty of Medicine attaches to basic sciences, the driving force of scientific research, and of the student-scientific mentor program established for this purpose, seven scientific studies by Faculty of Medicine students were published in 2017.
