Frequently Asked Questions
1- What is the difference between Management Engineering and Industrial Engineering?
Management Engineering and Industrial Engineering are like two springs flowing from the same source. They have many common points in terms of education and fields of work.
A Management Engineer has a holistic perspective that grasps the dynamic structure in which processes expressed through tangible outputs are in mutual relationship with the quantitative functions of organizations. Organizations consist neither solely of the design of abstract functions nor solely of the propositions of numerical analyses that deliver tangible outputs. Reality requires a far more holistic view.
For precisely this reason, Management Engineering aims to provide solutions, through qualitative methods and an analytical approach, to the problems of business processes rooted in quantitative elements.
For a Management Engineer, business processes must be approached with a holistic perspective extending between quantitative activities such as marketing, finance and HR and tangible outputs such as products and services. Therefore, Management Engineers design and manage systems that keep the relationship between management and engineering disciplines in balance, taking the human factor into account in their practice.
Industrial Engineering, on the other hand, focuses more on the design, optimization and control of production and service systems, where quantitative components are more prominent.
2- What is the difference between Management Engineering and Business Administration?
The Department of Business Administration educates graduates with knowledge of organizational functions such as finance, marketing and human resources management, and focuses on developing strategies for the sustainability and growth of the company.
In addition to providing knowledge of these quantitative functions in organizations, the Department of Management Engineering also incorporates the engineering discipline. Although the problems it addresses belong to the quantitative functions of businesses, its approach to the solution process carries the analytical and qualitative characteristics required by engineering. Its goal is to bring a holistic perspective to the organization and its processes through systematic and analytical skills.
3- What will I gain from studying Management Engineering?
A Management Engineering education enables you to acquire skills in various areas such as finance, human resources management, project management, marketing, quantitative methods and entrepreneurship. Skills in both engineering and management make you versatile and make it easier for you to put into practice ideas that matter in both academia and the business world. For you, problems consist neither of abstract processes alone nor of tangible outputs alone. Your education gives you the insight that these two elements are intertwined and must be managed together, and that solutions consist neither solely of quantitative proposals nor solely of analytical evaluations.
