Capstone Project
Industrial Engineering - Capstone Project
The purpose of the capstone project is to enable students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in academic courses to a long-term research project, and to gain experience in scientific research, report writing, and both intra-disciplinary and multidisciplinary teamwork.
The Capstone Project consists of two courses that start in the fall semester and continue in the spring semester. In the INE4991 Capstone Project I course offered in the fall semester, students receive theoretical knowledge on academic project management, project groups are formed, and the groups begin working with their advisors. In principle, topics on which at least two different departments will work together are determined by the advisors, and the groups consist of students from these departments (e.g., Industrial Engineering and Software Engineering students may work together on a software development project involving optimization, with advisors from both departments). By the end of the semester, groups are expected to carry out preliminary work for the INE4992 Capstone Project II course, such as understanding their research topic, conducting a literature review and drawing up a work plan with project management tools.
Only students who have successfully completed the INE4991 Capstone Project I course may enroll in the INE4992 Capstone Project II course in the spring semester. Groups taking the INE4992 Capstone Project II course continue their research through stages such as data collection, model building and statistical data analysis, and complete the course by submitting their final reports to their advisors at the end of the semester.
