Sports Physiotherapy Program
Related Center: Healthy Living and Physiotherapy Application and Research Center
Language of Instruction: Turkish
Program Description: The aim of this certificate program is to enable students who wish to specialize in sports physiotherapy to acquire the necessary competencies. Through courses offered entirely within the Faculty of Health Sciences, the program teaches the physiological effects of exercise, the prevention of sports injuries, and treatment and return-to-sport processes. In addition, myofascial tissue treatments, which play an important role in athlete rehabilitation, are addressed through current evidence-based methods.
Application Requirements: The "Sports Physiotherapy" certificate program is open to Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation students. To be entitled to receive the certificate, our students must pass the courses in the table below with a letter grade of at least "B". Our students may subsequently request their certificates by submitting a petition to their academic advisors.
Completing the Program: To complete the program, all courses in the program must be passed with a letter grade of at least "B". In this case, our students will be awarded a certificate stating that they have completed the program. Students who take a course and fail ("F" or "NA") may repeat the relevant course.

Course Descriptions:
FTR4066 PHYSIOTHERAPY IN SPORTS
The aim of this course is to convey the roles of the sports physiotherapist, the injury and healing processes of muscle-tendon, joint and bone structures, the skills to evaluate sports injuries, the physiotherapy and rehabilitation of athlete injuries, practices in the return-to-sport phase, methods of preventing sports injuries, and the types of exercise covering all these processes. Approaching sports injuries from a broad perspective, the course covers the evaluation of sports injuries, the planning of rehabilitation and the implementation of the return-to-sport process.
FTR4006 EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY
The aim of this course is to explain the fundamentals of exercise physiology, exercise testing practices, and the contribution of interpreting test results to rehabilitation. The course covers the effects of exercise on the musculoskeletal and metabolic systems, the endocrine, respiratory and cardiovascular responses of the body to exercise, exercise testing and training, high-altitude and underwater exercise, and exercise regimens for women, children and older adults.
FTR4074 EVIDENCE-BASED MYOFASCIAL TISSUE TREATMENTS
The aim of this course is to learn to recognize and classify myofascial tissue, to become familiar with myofascial tissue treatments and their objectives, to examine the use and benefits of myofascial release techniques in orthopedic, sports and neurological rehabilitation, and to examine evidence-based practices of myofascial treatments. The course examines the classification of fascial tissue, the definition of myofascial tissue, the identification of important receptors in myofascial tissue and the concept of myofascial continuity.
It also covers the structure of adhesions that may occur in myofascial tissue, the identification of pathological adaptations that adhesion development may cause in the patient's musculoskeletal system, particularly in the kinetic chain, types of myofascial treatment, physiological healing mechanisms, indications and contraindications of the techniques, functional assessment of the patient, examination of the effects of myofascial treatments on pain, flexibility, functionality, range of motion, quality of daily life, muscle tone and performance, sound clinical decision-making, creating appropriate treatment programs through case examples, and evidence-based practices.
