It is the evaluation of hearing, hearing and balance system. Developing and applying appropriate tools, methods and techniques to make this assessment in clinical or experimental settings, and interpret the results; Application of appropriate recovery methods (hearing aid / cochlear implant / auditory training / vestibular rehabilitation) in hearing loss and balance problems; The preparation and implementation of hearing protection and early intervention programs (newborn hearing screenings, noise protection programs) constitute the working areas of audiology.
The practice authority of the field of audiology science and health is represented by the professional called "audiologist". Audiologist is a profession defined and officially recognized by the Republic of Turkey as of 2011. Since the service area is very wide and the number of trained personnel is low, it has become inevitable to start undergraduate education in the field of Audiology.
a) Performs diagnostic tests under the guidance of a specialist physician in the diagnosis of diseases related to hearing and balance, and determines, selects and programs the devices to be used for rehabilitation and hearing rehabilitation.
b) Conducts studies to protect hearing health and prevent hearing loss.
c) Takes part in hearing screening programs and performs the tests in these programs.
d) Makes noise measurements and makes necessary recommendations about hearing protection.
e) Performs nerve monitoring regarding hearing and balance if the surgeon deems it necessary during surgical procedures.
f) Makes device adjustments during and after surgery for devices implanted in the ear.
g) Performs auditory perception evaluation and rehabilitation.
h) Takes part in the preparation of hearing-related training programs.
The Department of Audiology, opened within the Faculty of Health Sciences of our university, provides four-year undergraduate education. Graduates are given the title of 'audiologist'. Audiologists have a wide range of work areas, mainly in hospitals, the private sector, universities, private educational institutions and the state.
