Center for Human Rights and Freedoms Research and Application

The Center for Human Rights and Freedoms Research and Application was established to conduct public awareness activities in the field of human rights and fundamental freedoms, to prepare expert opinions and amicus curiae briefs (court-appointed expert opinions) within the framework of relevant legislation, and to contribute to national and international studies in this field by producing scientific knowledge.

Political, social, economic, and even technological developments both advance rights and freedoms grounded in human dignity and, simultaneously, necessitate the development of more effective protection mechanisms. Based on this premise, the Center adopts a dynamic approach to human rights and fundamental freedoms, and its analyses are analytical in nature.

The Center for Human Rights and Freedoms Research and Application aims to organize activities that highlight two main areas of focus, particularly this year. The first is to organize workshops addressing the social issues faced by migrants and refugees, which are on both the global and national agenda, as well as to identify the legal barriers they encounter and propose solutions. The second main area of activity focuses on the increasing violence against women, children, and individuals of diverse gender identities. In this regard, two types of activities are planned: on the one hand, organizing activities aimed at raising public awareness and fostering societal understanding; and on the other hand, applying for academic research projects to conduct and publish scientific studies addressing violence against women, children, and individuals of diverse gender identities.

The Center aims to implement its planned activities through effective collaboration with other departments, adopting an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach that ensures a holistic framework in this field.

Center for Competition Law Research and Application

The Bahçeşehir University Center for Competition Law Research and Application (BauRM) is a center established to conduct public awareness activities in the field of competition law, develop expert opinions, carry out research, produce knowledge, and contribute to national and international studies. The Center will also contribute to the training of competition law professionals by offering foundational education and seminars on competition law to students of Bahçeşehir University and other universities.

Economic, social, and technological developments enhance competition in goods and services markets, while also potentially creating restrictive effects on competition, making it necessary to establish effective protection and supervision mechanisms. Based on this premise, the Center adopts a dynamic approach that considers the impact of new developments on competition law. Its analyses aim to be analytical in nature.

The Center will play an active role in organizing symposia and workshops aimed at ensuring alignment between Turkish and European Union competition law legislation and strengthening cooperation in this field. It will also conduct comparative scientific studies examining competition law systems in Anglo-Saxon and European frameworks, as well as those of other countries, and will carry out activities aimed at raising awareness in the field of competition law. Within this scope, both academic and public awareness projects will be implemented.

The Center also aims to produce solutions to current market-related issues through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration between competition law and economic sciences. Through cooperation with universities and other institutions and organizations abroad, the Center will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and the implementation of joint projects related to international and comparative competition law practices.

The activities planned by the Center will support academic research projects while also being complemented by seminars, training programs, and conferences aimed at raising awareness among relevant segments of society. In addition, the Center aims to support publications in the field of competition law and contribute to the academic literature.

IGUL-PALS Global

IGUL (Institute for Global Understanding of the Rule of Law), founded by Prof. Feridun Yenisey, is a unit that has been operating within the Faculty of Law at Bahçeşehir University for approximately 20 years. Over the years, numerous experts from various parts of the world, including the United States, Germany, Italy, France, and India, have participated both in person and online, delivering lectures in their areas of expertise. These lectures are conducted free of charge and are open not only to students of the Faculty of Law at Bahçeşehir University but also to students from other universities and departments.

In addition to students, many professionals—including attorneys, judges, prosecutors, notaries, police officers, and individuals from various other professions—have participated in the numerous programs organized to date. Similarly, speakers in these programs have represented a wide range of professional backgrounds. Within the scope of these programs, collaborations have been established with many prominent institutions, including the Ministry of Justice, the United States Supreme Court, consulates located in Türkiye, and universities from Türkiye and other countries. IGUL continues its activities within this framework.
