The Sound Technologies Department is a two year graduate program which focuses on recent trends and techniques of sound engineering, sound processing applications, music production, sound for film and visual media, post-production and electronic / electro-acoustic music studies. The program also offers a module specialized in jazz performance and composition.
The Sound Technology graduate program presents researches on every aspect of the sound phenomena and correlates these physical features with the latest and most popular technology used in the field. Through courses such as studio recording techniques and multi-track mixing, the students gain knowledge on the basic operation of a sound studio, microphone techniques, multi-track recording, editing and mixing. Via these studies, the development of analytical listening skills is encouraged so that the students’ perception of the sound data is enhanced. The students practice their theoretical knowledge gained through classes in the high-end sound studio of the program located in the Galata campus of the university. The studio allows for sessions on multi-track recording, stereo or surround mixing and audio mastering. The students are allowed to use the studio 24/7 by reserving time through an online calendar system.
As the sound technologies field is an ever-expanding area of research that progresses in parallel with the current technological and artistic developments; in their thesis studies the students are encouraged to study on any one of these topics such as: music production, music information retrieval, sound synthesis, contemporary electronic music, application / instrument development etc.
