United Nations Global Compact
The United Nations Global Compact is an initiative that encourages organizations to develop practices consistent with sustainability and their social responsibilities in order to spread a sustainable, shared culture of global development throughout the world, and that brings together the signatories of this compact.
The Global Compact comprises ten universal principles that its signatory organizations commit to uphold. The parties to the compact work to make these principles part of their business strategies, operations and culture. In addition to complying with these principles themselves, signatory organizations are asked to expect their solution partners to comply with them over time. The ten principles are grouped under four headings: human rights, labor rights, environment and anti-corruption.
Human Rights
Principle 1 - Businesses should support and respect internationally recognized human rights; and
Principle 2 - businesses should take all necessary measures to make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Labor
Principle 3 - Businesses should give the utmost importance to freedom of association and collective bargaining;
Principle 4 - the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labor;
Principle 5 - the complete abolition of child labor; and
Principle 6 - the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Environment
Principle 7 - Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8 - support all activities and initiatives that promote greater environmental responsibility; and
Principle 9 - encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Anti-Corruption
Principle 10 - Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
