Women Students Mentorship and Scholarship Program

BAHÇEŞEHİR UNIVERSITY WOMEN STUDENTS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM 

The Bahçeşehir University Women Students Mentorship Program is a mentorship program designed to connect female students with female academics and women working in the business world.  

Purpose: 

Mentorship programs can facilitate women's career development while also providing insight into and knowledge of organizational cultures at senior management levels. In this context, the Bahçeşehir University Women Students Mentorship Program aims to support female students in achieving their life and career goals.  

Who Can Serve as a Mentor and What Is Their Role  

Women professionals from various sectors with at least five years of industry experience, female entrepreneurs and female academics can serve as mentors.  

The role of mentors is to provide their mentees with insight and guidance drawn from their own experience.  

Who Can Be a Mentee 

Female students studying at Bahçeşehir University are eligible to apply to the program. 

Mentor and Mentee Matching 

Mentors and mentees are matched on the basis of their responses in the application forms. The accuracy of the information provided in the application forms is therefore essential. Each mentee may have only one mentor at a time. A mentor may have as many mentees as indicated in their application form. 

Duration of the Mentorship 

The mentorship program will run for 14 weeks. 

Number of Mentorship Meetings and Process 

The program is designed to be highly flexible so that mentees can achieve their own professional development goals. It is also intended not to be burdensome and to accommodate the busy schedules of mentors and mentees. 

Within the mentorship program, each mentor and their matched mentee may hold four or more meetings. Fewer than four meetings are not permitted. At least one hour is expected to be allocated to each mentor-mentee meeting. 

In addition, regular events will be organized at which all program participants can come together and learn from leading women professionals. Mentees are expected to attend these events.  

Application System 

Mentee applications will be made by completing the relevant forms, which can be obtained from the Bahçeşehir University Dean of Students Office. 

Mentor applications will be managed by the Bahçeşehir University CO-OP Unit.  

Mentor-mentee matches will be determined in collaboration with the BAU Dean of Students Office, the BAU Equal Unit and the BAU Directorate of Social Impact and Responsibility, and applicants will be notified.  

BAHÇEŞEHİR UNIVERSITY APPLYBAU SCHOLARSHIP SYSTEM APPLICATION AND ADMISSION POLICY AND PRACTICE 

In addition to the scholarships granted by the state during student admissions through the centralized student selection and placement system, Bahçeşehir University also offers a specially designed scholarship system called APPLYBAU. 

The APPLYBAU System embraces all characteristics and differences of students and has evaluation criteria that oppose all forms of discrimination, including those based on gender, ethnicity, religion and age.  

Within APPLYBAU, Bahçeşehir University is committed to providing equal and equitable opportunities for all applicants and students in accordance with the principles set out in our "Non-Discrimination and Gender Equality Policy".  

The following plan addresses issues relating to women's applications, admission, entry and participation in APPLYBAU scholarships, with the aim of eliminating any potential gender-based gaps.  

ApplyBAU Scholarship System Process, Access and Participation Plan  

ApplyBAU, introduced by Bahçeşehir University in 2013, is Türkiye's first and most innovative university admission and scholarship model. 

Placing importance on students being placed at a university in line with their personal skills, interests, talents and dreams rather than an examination system that measures curriculum-based achievement, Bahçeşehir University has implemented the "Admission / Application – Acceptance" model. 

Prospective students request admission from ApplyBAU, taking into account the application dates for the term, before being placed at a university through the national university exam. When requesting admission, they are asked to submit their autobiographies, documents describing their personal characteristics, their talents, project and idea work, and social responsibility activities. When applying, students also indicate the field and degree programs in which they wish to study. Following the evaluation, candidates who meet the scholarship requirements are notified through an "acceptance letter" of the field and degree program in which they should study, independently of their academic achievement. During this process, the committee also has the right to interview students. In this way, students have the chance to receive an education scholarship based on their differences and personal characteristics. 

The ApplyBAU system approaches all prospective students as individuals. It embraces all their characteristics and differences and has evaluation criteria that oppose all forms of discrimination, including those based on gender, ethnicity, religion and age.  

Since its founding, Bahçeşehir University's vision of gender equality has always guided its philosophy and operations. Bahçeşehir University aims to enable all female students to reach their potential through full and active participation. It is determined to remove all barriers and to help the student community become more self-confident about these issues. 

In this sense, while the ApplyBAU system covers all programs at the university, it also contributes to equal opportunity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, fields in which women are underrepresented.  

Thanks to this system, in which candidates are included in a different evaluation process during the university exam period, candidates already hold acceptance letters from Bahçeşehir University when making their university preferences. Thus, during the centralized placement preference period, they have the chance to choose our university with a scholarship, using the degree programs for which they have been accepted, through the Student Selection and Placement Center. 

Scholarship Monitoring Results for Female Applicants  

Within the APPLYBAU system, Bahçeşehir University systematically monitors female students' scholarship applications and sets annual quotas for female students in each department. This contributes to women's access to the university.
