One of the most important needs of every student studying communication sciences is the ability to apply what they learn in practice and to succeed in professional life by receiving feedback on how communication theories translate into real-world contexts. In order to achieve this goal, the Joint Education Model enables our students to access Türkiye’s leading communication institutions, whose number reached 81 as of 2021. Our students attend real job interviews and dedicate three days a week for one semester to gain professional experience within the scope of the Joint Education Model. The experience gained during one semester counts as two courses and a mandatory internship. At the end of the semester, students are evaluated by the partner organization and their academic advisor. From advertising to design, gaming to digital media, corporate communication to audio production, our students develop practical skills across a wide range of related fields and become ready for the industry while they are still at university.

Collaboration with Leading Institutions in the Sector

The Joint Education Model offers both employment and experience opportunities for students of the Faculty of Communication and aims to ensure that students gain sectoral experience while still studying at university. As of the 2025–2026 Academic Year, our faculty has partnership agreements with 125 leading organizations in Türkiye. Through these collaborations, students experience different roles and positions within the communication sector and become familiar with professional practices at an early stage.

 

The Opportunity to Gain Professional Experience While Studying

The Joint Education Model consists of a one-semester program that covers the fall and spring semesters separately. Before each semester, students apply for the positions announced by our educational partners through a form published on the “News” page of our website. Following the application process, students participate in interviews and gain experience in real job interviews.

The internship insurance for students is provided by the University. Students’ work is evaluated by coordinators from the partner institutions together with the faculty members responsible for the program at our faculty, and these evaluations are converted into grades. The grade received is recorded as the final grade for two courses chosen by students from three different course types within the program: departmental electives, non-departmental electives, and general electives, in consultation with their academic advisor.

To date, 1,012 students have benefited from the model over the past 12 years across 125 partner organizations, making it an important value-added component of our faculty’s applied education approach.

1. What is the Joint Education Model?

The Joint Education Model is an internship program that students can apply for during both the fall and spring semesters.

2. How can I apply?

The application process for the Joint Education Model consists of three steps:

Application Form

Before the beginning of each semester, an application form including company and position information is shared with students via email, the website, and social media channels.

Interviews
Students proceed to the interview stage with the companies they applied to. Interviews may be conducted online or in person. Students who apply to more than one company must attend all interviews and follow the interview dates announced by the companies.

Application Documents

Students who receive acceptance from a company must submit the required documents to the Faculty Secretariat by the specified deadlines. Students who fail to submit the documents cannot be insured and therefore cannot start their internship.

3. What are the application documents?

Depending on whether the student receives healthcare coverage through their family, two different procedures apply.

Students who receive healthcare coverage through their family must complete Commitment Form No. 1. Students who do not receive healthcare coverage through their family must complete Commitment Form No. 2.

4. How long is the internship? How many days per week must I attend?

The internship begins on the start date of courses according to the academic calendar of the relevant semester and ends when the courses finish. Students must attend their internship three days per week within the scope of the Joint Education Model.

5. Can I have courses recognized within the scope of the Joint Education Model?

Within the scope of the Joint Education Model, students may request to transfer a maximum of 2 courses per semester and a total of 2 courses throughout their academic career. Additionally, students have the right to select a total of 20 credit courses within a semester. Students who wish to transfer 1 course under the Joint Education Model must leave 3 credits vacant during the course selection week, while students who wish to transfer 2 courses must leave 6 credits vacant. The assignments for these courses will be made manually by the faculty after the add-drop week.

6. Can my mandatory internship be recognized within the Joint Education Model?

Students who wish to have their mandatory internship recognized within the Joint Education Model must select the mandatory internship course through the system during the course registration week and inform the relevant internship coordinator.

7. Which course types can my internship be recognized as?

Depending on the student’s available course slots, the internship may be recognized as DEP (departmental elective) or NON-DEP (non-departmental elective). The desired course type and course code must be indicated on the Joint Education Model Application Form.

8. How many semesters can I participate in the Joint Education Model?

Students may have a maximum of two courses recognized throughout their academic life. However, students may participate in the program every semester, provided that they do not request course recognition.

9. Who covers my internship insurance?

Internship insurance within the scope of the Joint Education Model is covered by the University. Therefore, application documents must be submitted to the Faculty Secretariat before the internship begins. According to legal regulations, students whose insurance procedures are not completed cannot start their internships. Insurance can be arranged for only one company per student, and students cannot work at two companies simultaneously.

10. How will my courses within the Joint Education Model be graded?

All work completed by students is evaluated by the relevant department manager at the partner institution and the faculty member responsible for the student’s activities at our faculty. The average of the two evaluations is calculated, and the responsible faculty member for the Joint Education Model enters the final grade into the system.

11. What happens if I fail to continue my internship?

If a student decides to withdraw from the Joint Education Model, they must withdraw from one course during the withdrawal period. If a second course has been assigned, it will receive an F grade. If the student withdraws from the internship after the withdrawal deadline specified in the academic calendar, both courses will receive an F grade. There is no right to apply for make-up exams, additional exams, or similar opportunities for courses taken within the Joint Education Model.

 

12. I am a first-year student. Can I participate?

Students from all years may participate in the Joint Education Model. However, first-year students cannot have courses recognized since they cannot leave available course slots.

13. I am a Double Major or Minor student. Can I participate?

Students enrolled in Double Major programs may apply. Students enrolled in Minor programs cannot apply since they cannot leave available course slots.

14. Is there a GPA requirement?

Yes. Students on academic probation cannot participate in the Joint Education Model.

(Students with a GPA below 1.80 are considered to be on academic probation.)
