Education should be a means more than an aim in itself. At the core of our Department’s educational model lies the motivation to raise graduates who respect, love and cherish their profession, foster a positive working environment, are intuitive and aesthetically sensible, show strong technical ability and dexterity, demonstrate originality and creativity, and finally, has a tactful approach to society and the World. Therefore, as a Department we remain in contact with the photography and video sectors, and motivated to form in our students the set of technical skills, cultural knowledge, creative abilities and social sensitivity which are the founding principles of cultural industries fed by visual literacy and creative thinking.
The first two years of our program aims at constructing a strong base of knowledge and abilities through the following technical, aesthetic and theoretical courses: Photography, Theories of Media and Communication, Art, Culture and Society, Applied Photography Techniques, Basics of Video and TV Techniques, Concept Development and Visualization, Computer for Media Arts, Digital Image Processing, Studio and Lighting, Digital Video Editing, Cinematography, Word and Image, and Aesthetics. In the third and fourth years, students are taking their technical skills and historical knowledge in their field to an advanced level with courses such as Visual Storytelling, History of Camera Images, while also broadening their productive scope by specializing on different areas with elective courses such as Black and White Darkroom, Photo-Journalism and News Photography, Basic Sound Design, Advanced Editing and Post-Production, Storyboard, Digital Animation. In addition to these courses, students are also expected to submit an internship report of their successful training periods.
With an innovative and dynamic perspective in tune with the contemporary atmosphere, our department fosters a continuous education and work discipline through the organization of exhibitions, screenings, symposia, special talks and portfolio days. In our program the students are required to obtain the equipment that will allow them to produce professional video and photographic artworks towards still and moving image applications. However this investment will be justified with the exhibitions, publications and projects produced during their education. Our graduates can work in different professional areas as photographers, videographers and directors of photography, visual directors and visual artists.
