Department of New Media
As the BAU New Media Department, founded on a new-generation understanding of communication, we educate our students with the appropriate academic foundation and practical applications so that they can shape the communication world of the future. Our department follows innovations in the field of digital media, which changes and transforms in parallel with technological developments, and regularly updates its curriculum.
DEPARTMENT OF NEW MEDIA
Providing theoretical and applied education in the field of digital media studies with a multidisciplinary and critical approach, BAU New Media encourages students to use their creativity and imagination, taking into account the rapid change in the field of communication. In this regard, BAU New Media aims to educate professionals who have a command of the communication environments and dynamics transformed by digitalization, can use new media tools competently, and can produce for and manage online platforms.
Throughout the four-year undergraduate program, students grasp the fundamentals of journalism and ethical values in all their aspects, while also gaining the skills needed to become successful media professionals by pushing the limits of their creativity through numerous technical applications and digital projects. Students have the opportunity to take courses both from distinguished figures who have shaped traditional media and from new media experts of the digital world. During their education, BAU New Media students can publish the content they produce on Yeni Sayfa Online (www.yenisayfaonline.com), which is managed by the students themselves. Students who are directed to internship programs at respected news centers and digital platforms that have made a name for themselves in the sector during their education have the opportunity to apply and test the knowledge and experience they gain in academia in a professional environment. Students whose career goals are oriented toward academia rather than the media sector can enhance their competencies in this field by writing a strong undergraduate thesis in addition to the academic research they carry out during their undergraduate studies.
OBJECTIVE
To educate media and communication professionals who, together with the fundamentals of communication practices, have a command of the dynamics of this transformation, can produce for and manage online platforms, and can competently use the technical language of these tools.
PROGRAM
In the first year, BAU New Media students take fundamental courses in media and communication, such as Introduction to New Media and Media and Communication Theories; in the second year, they take courses in which digital and technical skills are acquired, such as Digital Journalism, Media Technologies, Technical Skills for New Media, News Photography, and New Media and Broadcast Journalism. From the third year onward, students gain various skills in their areas of interest through departmental, non-departmental and general elective courses, while also being able to orient themselves toward different areas of specialization in the world of media and communication. In line with an educational approach that encourages putting theoretical knowledge into practice, in the final year, through the New Media Project and compulsory internship courses, students graduate ready for professional life as strong candidates for the media sector thanks to their production in the digital environment. Students who wish to pursue an academic career can develop their competencies by conducting research and writing an article within the scope of the New Media Project.

The MAC and PC laboratories, studio and technical equipment on our campus are available to our students throughout all their production and project processes.
