A Second Diploma in Germany with Dual Up
A dual diploma opportunity from Germany is coming for university graduates in Türkiye. The "Dual Up" system, which involves earning a diploma that meets EU standards after one year of study, also brings many social rights and employment opportunities.
The "Dual Up" system, launched in partnership between Berlin International University and Bahçeşehir University (BAU), was introduced at an event held at BAU. The event was attended by BAU President Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz, Berlin International University President Prof. Dr. Hans-Dieter Klingemann and many guests. Offering a diploma recognized within the EU, the "Dual Up" system is open to all undergraduate graduates in Türkiye. The only requirement is that the student obtain equivalence for the department in which they studied. The system, in which BAU students can study with full equivalence, covers four years of undergraduate education and one year of study in Germany, and students will also be granted a 25 percent scholarship. Within our faculty, students studying Communication Design will be able to benefit from the system.
"The system applies to all programs abroad"
Speaking at the launch of the system, Berlin International University President Prof. Dr. Hans-Dieter Klingemann said: "Our program has several goals for students. The first is for students to earn an additional diploma by coming to study at our university on top of the diplomas they have earned here. Our second goal: a student who has completed university education here may want to start a master's degree abroad and advance their studies. In this way, they will be able to join our program and receive graduate education by studying at our university for one year. Third, you can spend 18 months in a beautiful city like Berlin, but never forget that this is not a simple program; it is a demanding program that definitely requires hard work. The greatest advantage of our program is that it is valid for all programs established abroad. Students will have the chance to come to Germany and get to know our language, social life and culture more closely."
"We can prepare personalized programs"
Offering advice to students who wish to take part in the European business world, Klingemann said: "My advice to students who want to work in Europe is this: first of all, they should call us before they come and tell us what they want to do. This way, our academic advisors can create a suitable program for them. For example, if a student wants to advance in academia but does not feel sufficiently prepared or thinks their skills are not adequate, we can prepare special programs for them."
Right to work and residence in EU countries
Stating that an institutional collaboration has been established with Berlin International University, BAU President Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz said the following about the Dual Up system: "This program is valid for eight programs in our Faculties of Communication, Architecture, and Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences. The first criterion for students is graduation. Second, since we have established institutional collaborations, we have created equivalence between the curricula. When students apply individually, we have already defined in advance the courses they will take and the entire process. After meeting the admission requirements there, they can graduate by taking these additional courses for one year. The most important benefit of this diploma for students is that they become entitled to a second diploma in addition to their Bahçeşehir University diploma, and that this university is recognized under German law. Therefore, with this diploma, they automatically gain the right to work and reside in Germany, and consequently in EU countries, for 18 months. We have opened the Dual-Up program not only to our own students but also to all young people in Türkiye. However, Bahçeşehir University graduates will benefit from a 25 percent scholarship. The most important opportunity we offer students is enabling them to earn one more diploma recognized under German law by studying for one more year within our BAU Global network. In this way, students will both complete their four-year university education here and, by studying for one more year, become entitled to another diploma corresponding to a four-year education in Germany."
On the other hand, problems regarding the worldwide validity of the courses a student takes at a university still persist. Thanks to "Dual Up", which aims to overcome this obstacle facing students in Türkiye, students will be able to obtain many rights of their choosing within the EU, from finding employment and having social rights to EU citizenship.
