Lateral Transfer – Double Major – Minor Frequently Asked Questions
What are the "No Impediment to Lateral Transfer" and "No Previous Lateral Transfer" documents? How can I obtain them?
The “No Impediment to Lateral Transfer Document” and the “No Previous Lateral Transfer Document” are two different documents. The “No Impediment to Lateral Transfer” document cannot be sent online. This printed document may be requested by other institutions with a wet signature. Therefore, you need to obtain this document (as a form) from the Department of Student Affairs at Beşiktaş South Campus, get a “wet signature” first from the Directorate of Current Services at South Campus and then from the Department of Library and Documentation at South Campus, and bring it to the Department of Student Affairs to be stamped. Those who cannot come in person for these procedures may assign someone to follow them up on their behalf. The “No Previous Lateral Transfer Document”, on the other hand, can be requested online by requesting a student certificate from the document request menu in UMIS and adding the note “I request that the statement that I have not made a lateral transfer before be written on my student certificate.” in the explanation field.
Are internal lateral transfers made in the mid-term period?
Lateral transfers are generally carried out at the end of semesters. If there is quota available in the spring semester, both internal and inter-institutional lateral transfers (excluding transfers from abroad) can be made under Additional Article 1 (lateral transfer via central placement). Inter-institutional lateral transfers based on Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) are possible in the mid-term period only between associate degree programs. Internal lateral transfers to associate and bachelor's degree programs based on CGPA can also be made in the mid-term period. The lateral transfer application and evaluation schedule is included in the dates specified in the academic calendar. In addition, before each application period, the requirements, quotas, application methods and evaluation schedule are announced in detail on the website of the Department of Student Affairs.
Which of my courses will be counted when I transfer?
Courses or exams (such as International Language Exams) taken in your previous program before enrolling in the program at Bahçeşehir University may be recognized upon the student's request via UMIS, if their content exists in the curriculum of the program you will study at Bahçeşehir University and they match in terms of content, local credits and ECTS value. The request is evaluated by the department's Adaptation Committee and finalized by the Executive Board of the academic unit. The process works as follows: After enrollment, once the English Language Preparatory Program has been completed, the student uploads the transcript(s) showing the courses they want to be counted on the “Adaptation Request” screen in UMIS, selecting the name of the relevant university. If there is a Department Adaptation Coordinator, they match the courses with appropriate courses and wait for the requesting student's approval (approval is expected within a maximum of 5 days; if not approved, it is deemed approved). After the student's approval, the Adaptation Committee decides on the adaptation in UMIS. The student can follow these processes step by step in UMIS. Adaptation Committee decisions are discussed by the Executive Board of the academic unit and the decision is finalized.
https://akts.bau.edu.tr/ page allows you to view the courses, course contents and credits of the program at Bahçeşehir and to obtain preliminary information about the courses from which you may be exempt. In addition, details about prior learning are provided in the Bahçeşehir University Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning, Exemption and Adaptation Procedures, available under “Directives” in the “About BAU” tab on the university homepage (bau.edu.tr).
Where can I get a document showing that I made an internal lateral transfer?
After logging in to UMIS, request a “Student Certificate” on the “Document Request” screen and state “Document showing that I made an internal lateral transfer” in the explanation field; the document will then be prepared.
Will my scholarship continue if I make an internal lateral transfer?
For ÖSYM scholarships: Starting from the 2025-2026 academic year, for students who enrolled in full scholarship programs (100% ÖSYM scholarship), half (50%) of these scholarships is carried over to the program they transfer to by being converted into a Bahçeşehir University Scholarship. (For students enrolled before the 2025-2026 academic year, the full amount of these scholarships is carried over to the program they transfer to by being converted into a Bahçeşehir University Scholarship.) Regarding the transfer of the ApplyBAU scholarship and other scholarships, please contact yataygecis@cco.bau.edu.tr. The relevant unit will respond to you on the matter.
Can I get information about lateral transfer dates?
Lateral transfers are generally carried out at the end of semesters. The Academic Calendar announced on the homepage includes the dates for lateral transfer applications, evaluation, announcement of results and registration. In addition, before each application period, the requirements, quotas, application methods and evaluation schedule are announced in detail on the website of the Department of Student Affairs.

What are the application requirements for a double major? In which programs is a double major not possible?
A double major is a second major diploma program taken alongside your major. Your success in your major affects admission to, continuation in and graduation from the double major program.
Double major program quotas are determined for each semester and announced on the website of the Department of Student Affairs.
For bachelor's degree programs:
- Being at the beginning of the 3rd semester at the earliest (having studied at least 2 semesters in the major program in which the student is enrolled on the date of the double major application).
- Being at the beginning of the 5th semester at the latest (having studied at most 4 semesters in the major program in which the student is enrolled on the date of the double major application).
- Having a CGPA of at least 3.00.
- Being in the top 20% of the relevant class of the major program in terms of academic ranking. If this condition (top 20% condition) is not met:
a) Students placed in the major program through the “international student” quota cannot pursue a double major.
b) For students placed through the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) or the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS), their placement score in the year of placement must be at least equal to the base score of the program at Bahçeşehir University in which they want to pursue a double major. - For programs that require a success ranking, the success ranking requirement must also be met. Students placed in the major program through the “international student” quota cannot pursue a double major in programs that require a success ranking, even if they are in the top 20%.
- Having no failed courses at the time of application.
- Having no outstanding courses from previous semesters.
For associate degree programs:
- Being at the beginning of the 2nd semester at the earliest (having studied at least 1 semester in the major program in which the student is enrolled on the date of the double major application).
- Being at the beginning of the 3rd semester at the latest (having studied at most 2 semesters in the major program in which the student is enrolled on the date of the double major application).
- Having a CGPA of at least 3.00.
- Being in the top 20% of the relevant class of the major program in terms of academic ranking. If this condition (top 20% condition) is not met:
a) Students placed in the major program through the “international student” quota cannot pursue a double major.
b) For students placed through the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS), their placement score in the year of placement must be at least equal to the base score of the program at Bahçeşehir University in which they want to pursue a double major. - For programs that require a success ranking, the success ranking requirement must also be met. International students cannot pursue a double major in programs that require a success ranking, even if they are in the top 20%.
- Having no failed courses at the time of application.
- Having no outstanding courses from previous semesters.
Note: Students whose major is an associate degree program can pursue a double major only in associate degree programs.
Separate transcripts are issued for each program (major and double major). In UMIS, by clicking the downward arrow in the “Personal Information” area and selecting the “Documents” tab, the transcript, course schedule and exam schedule for that program can be viewed and printed.
For each associate or bachelor's degree program in which you are enrolled, the SLOTS menu shows the compulsory and elective courses required for graduation, as well as the number, credits and ECTS of these courses that must be completed. To graduate from a program, the CGPA in that program must be at least 2.00 out of 4.00. However, for graduation from a double major program, the CGPA in the major program must be at least 2.75/4.00. During the double major program, the CGPA in the major program may drop to 2.50/4.00 only once. If the major program CGPA drops below 2.75/4.00 for a second time in the following semesters, the student is dismissed from the double major program. This means that, in order to graduate from the double major program, the student's CGPA in the major program must be at least 2.75/4.00.
A student who does not register for courses in the double major program for two consecutive semesters without permission (without freezing registration) is dismissed from the double major program.
If registration in the major program is frozen, registration in the double major program is automatically frozen as well. If courses cannot be taken in the double major program for reasons such as the course not being offered or course conflicts, registration in the double major program may be frozen upon the recommendation of the department offering the double major program and the decision of the executive board of the faculty or vocational school to which the double major program belongs.
The maximum duration of the double major program is calculated independently of the major. The maximum duration is calculated in the same way as for the major program.
How are my double major grades calculated?
The grade calculation methods of the major program and the double major program are the same. The graduation requirements of both programs (compulsory courses and elective course categories, which must be completed) are shown on the SLOTS screen of the double major program in UMIS. The courses in the compulsory and elective categories, the number, credits and ECTS of these courses that must be completed, and the CGPA requirement (a major CGPA of 2.75/4.00 or above throughout the double major) must be met.
Can I get information about graduation rankings in the double major and minor programs?
No class rankings or graduation degrees are determined for double major or minor programs.
Even if all graduation requirements of the double major or minor program have been completed before earning the right to graduate from the major program, a double major or minor graduation is not granted without graduation from the major. You must graduate from the major program before the double major or minor program.
Can I leave my double major program?
The double major program can be left upon request. To do so, log in to UMIS through the double major program and fill in the form in the “Dismissal Request” menu; this starts the withdrawal process.
In addition, if you apply to the Department of Student Affairs with a petition, the application is forwarded to the relevant academic unit, and the courses passed in the double major program may be added to the slots of the major program with “NI” (not included) status, without being included in the major CGPA. These courses are shown on the transcript and the diploma supplement.
How do I register for double major courses?
During the course selection periods announced in the academic calendar, course selection is made by logging in to the UMIS system with your double major ID. The academic advisor of the double major program can help you with the courses you can choose from the double major program and their relationship with your major courses.
What is the course load in a double major?
The total course credit load of major, double major and minor courses taken in one semester cannot exceed 33 credits.
Can I convert my minor into a double major? Can I convert my double major into a minor?
A minor program cannot be converted into a double major program. However, a double major program can be converted into the minor program of the same program. To convert a double major program into the minor program of the same program, you must apply with a petition to the “Academic Affairs Unit” (lateral transfer office) of the Department of Student Affairs at South Campus during the double major/minor application dates announced in the academic calendar.
