Why Biomedical Engineering?
Biomedical Engineering, an exciting meeting point where medicine and engineering sometimes intersect and sometimes merge to form a whole, is a new engineering approach that has increasingly gained recognition in Türkiye. Under today's conditions, it is clear that the efforts of medical doctors to improve the quality of human life need to be strengthened through engineering approaches. To this end, research and development activities focused on human health have gained significant momentum, and the intriguing and thought-provoking results obtained have led researchers to pursue new and different goals every day. By its very nature, humanity has always needed the innovations and advances achieved through the joint work of health sciences and engineering under almost all conditions. Naturally, given their fundamental objectives, it is inevitable that medical doctors and biomedical engineers adapt to this collaboration. As the name suggests, biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary field that must work together with almost every branch of engineering. For example, the mechanical properties of the musculoskeletal system relate to mechanical engineering; values such as the exchange of body fluids and ion balance relate to chemistry, biology and chemical engineering; and the design and production stages of medical devices are intertwined with electrical and electronics, mechanical and industrial engineering, as well as medicine and biology. The scientific community also agrees that this branch of engineering, which has ranked at the top of lists of the professions of the future in recent years, will gain even greater prominence in the near future.
