Our Educational Sustainability Approach

Bahçeşehir University considers educational sustainability as a holistic area that requires the support, monitoring, and continuous improvement of students’ educational journey from access to university life through graduation. This approach focuses on evaluating the academic, financial, social, and administrative factors that may affect students’ educational continuity, progression, and success, and on activating the necessary support mechanisms in a timely and coordinated manner.
In this regard, BAU coordinates processes related to prospective students’ scholarship procedures and the sustainability of current students’ educational lives through a holistic, data-informed, and measurable structure. This structure supports equitable access to quality higher education and contributes to students’ persistence, progression toward graduation, and future employability.
The primary objective of the educational sustainability approach is to identify, at an early stage, the conditions that may challenge students’ ability to continue their education; to regularly monitor indicators such as registration renewal, reasons for withdrawal, support needs, and risk signals; and to transform the resulting data into improvement actions.
The approach is based on the following principles in alignment with international quality assurance and evaluation expectations:
• Identifying risks that may affect the sustainability of students’ educational lives at an early stage,
• Monitoring registration renewal, reasons for withdrawal, student support needs, and risk signals in a data-informed manner,
• Strengthening regular coordination mechanisms between academic and administrative units,
• Developing academic, financial, social, and administrative support processes aligned with students’ needs,
• Evaluating intervention processes and outcomes through measurable indicators,
• Ensuring that findings contribute to faculty- and program-level improvement efforts,
• Supporting students’ progression toward graduation, future employability, and productive participation in professional life,
• Establishing processes that are reportable, sustainable, and aligned with the BAU’s quality assurance system.
The work of the Educational Sustainability Unit is supported by the Executive Board chaired by the Vice Rector Responsible for Student Experience. The Board includes a representative of the General Secretariat, the Educational Sustainability Unit Manager, and representatives from the Student Account Services Directorate, the Dean of Students Office, the Registrar’s Office, and the Finance Directorate. When necessary, representatives from relevant academic and administrative units are also included in the process.
Through this approach, Bahçeşehir University strengthens the sustainability of students’ educational lives not only through periodic support practices, but also through regular monitoring, evidence-based evaluation, internal coordination, and a culture of continuous improvement. In this way, the University develops a student-centered, measurable, and quality assurance-based educational sustainability model that supports educational continuity, student success, and long-term contribution to professional and social life.
