Welcome to Bahçeşehir University PUAM Family Studies Unit!

As PUAM Family Studies Unit, we carry out family-based research and practices for the benefit of society. It is seen that problems that cause individual difficulties and often manifest themselves in social life are affected by childhood family experiences. As PUAM Family Studies Unit, our aim is to raise awareness of family members for their individual, couple and group psycho-social development and well-being. In this way, we aim to emphasize the importance of parenting attitudes and thus contribute to building a psychologically healthier society in the long term.
The scientific research conducted in our unit is centered around the following topics:

•  The effects of family on psychosocial development
•  Communication and relationships within the family
•  Different roles of family members
•  Being a caregiver
•  Effects of parenting attitude on personality and individual development
•  Effects of parenting attitude on psychopathology
•  Different developmental periods within the family (childhood, adolescence, emerging adulthood, adulthood)
•  Risk factors and preventive factors (e.g., resilience) within the family
•  Compatible and maladaptive behaviors within the family
•  Traumas within the family
•  Effects of family communication and parenting roles on attachment
•  Relationship of parenting attitude with maternal depression
