Participation Conditions & Eligibility

Who Can Participate?

The competition is open to 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students studying in the Department of Architecture, the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, and the Department of Industrial Product Design at the BAU Faculty of Architecture and Design.

Individual or Team Participation: You may participate individually or in teams of up to 5 members. Teams may be interdisciplinary, and such collaborations are strongly encouraged.

Application Document: To participate in the competition, you must complete the competition application document (Registration Form) at https://forms.gle/M7DTebBdd2atoXMP6 .

Mandatory Workshop: All students or teams participating in the competition are required to attend the workshop and seminar to be held. Projects of students who do not attend the seminar and workshop will not be accepted.

Communication Rules: Throughout the competition schedule, no participant may communicate directly with the jury committee or rapporteurs. All questions regarding the competition must be sent by 28 October 2024 at 17:00 to timberisfuture@gmail.com . Questions and answers will be published on this website on 1 November 2024 .

Students are prohibited from asking questions to the organizing committee and instructors outside the Q&A process and the seminar day .

Project Requirements:

Originality: Projects participating in the competition must be original. Projects must not have been previously published elsewhere, submitted to another competition, or produced within the scope of project studios. If found otherwise, the project will be disqualified.

References: If images and texts from other sources are used, appropriate sources must be cited.

Use of Materials: Designs must include the provided timber elements with appropriate connection details. Non-structural/secondary materials such as textiles and membranes may be used at a moderate scale and quantity.

To ensure full compliance with the competition rules, every student participating in the competition must read the competition brief carefully.

Disqualification Conditions:

• If direct communication has been established with the jury committee or rapporteurs,
• If the submitted project is not original, has been previously published elsewhere, submitted to another competition, or produced in a project studio/workshop; if it is a copy of an existing project or consists of created, printed, exhibited or published images of an existing project,
• If project visuals or design documents contain any information that may reveal the participant's identity, such as name, surname or student ID,
• If the documents requested from participants are uploaded to the system incorrectly or incompletely or uploaded after the project submission deadline specified in the competition schedule,
• If different representations of the project have been uploaded to another digital interface and linked via a QR code,

Applications of students in these situations will not be evaluated by the jury and will be documented in a report by the rapporteurs and disqualified.
