Statement on 2020 Policy Development Goals

As a World University in the heart of Istanbul, we are committed to providing a productive learning and working environment for all members of the BAU Family and, in this way, to being a model for society. In order to achieve and preserve this within our culture, we prioritize creating a diverse and inclusive environment free from all discriminatory and violent behavior. We embrace principles against discrimination based on race, gender, disability, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, religion, language and other grounds, and against sexual harassment, workplace violence, abuse of authority and other forms of violence.

Furthermore, as an institution of education, research and service to society, and in keeping with university tradition, we base all our processes and practices on the principles of academic freedom and academic integrity. We believe that innovation and progress, the education of future generations and the sustainability of sharing the knowledge produced rest on these principles, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In line with our mission, we pledge that during 2020 we will develop, in a participatory manner, policy documents reflecting these principles we believe in; review all our processes, starting with those that make up the steps of our students' and employees' life cycles at our university; and establish mechanisms for preventing violations and for dealing with violations should they occur.
