General Principles of the Summer Internship:
The following general principles must be observed in the mandatory summer internship courses of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering (MCH3995 Summer Internship I and MCH4995 Summer Internship II):
1- To graduate, every student enrolled in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering must complete two separate internships of 20 days each (40 days in total) and pass the MCH3995 Summer Internship I and MCH4995 Summer Internship II courses (receive an "S" grade).
2- Our students may complete their first internship after taking the 2nd year courses at the earliest, and their second internship after taking the 3rd year courses at the earliest.
3- When determining the dates of the internship, students must take the current academic calendar into account. As a rule, internships are completed during academic break periods (the break following the spring semester or the fall semester).
4- Students who are about to graduate (with only their last two semesters remaining) may complete an internship during periods with classes and exams if at least 3 weekdays are free in their weekly course schedule. For this, the student must have no classes at all on at least 3 weekdays in their weekly course schedule. Online courses are treated the same as in-person courses. For institutions that operate on Saturdays, Saturday is also accepted as a workday for interns, based on an official statement from the host company. The mandatory internship may only be completed on the specified free days.
5- Official holidays and religious holidays are not counted as internship workdays.
6- The host company is identified by the student. The unit where the internship is completed must involve at least one process related to Mechatronics Engineering. For example, units covering technical fields such as production, automation, robotics, various mechanical systems, quality control of hardware, and software-electronics (embedded systems) are suitable for the internship. Units such as human resources, purchasing, sales, accounting, administrative affairs, process quality control and the management office are not suitable.
7- The host company must employ at least two full-time engineers in the fields of mechatronics, mechanical, electrical-electronics or control engineering.
8- Completing both internships at the same company is not permitted, although there are exceptions. See the FAQ section for details.
9- Regardless of whether the host company is in Türkiye or abroad, insurance coverage for the duration of the internship is a legal requirement. Internships completed without insurance will not be considered valid. Internship insurance procedures are carried out by the BAU Human Resources Office. Insurance procedures can be completed no earlier than 1 month and no later than three days before the internship start date. 10- The host company cannot be owned by a first-degree relative of the student.
Steps to Follow When Applying for the Internship:
1- The student identifies the host company and the internship dates in accordance with the criteria specified in the General Principles. If the company requests a letter stating that the internship is mandatory, the student may print out and submit the "BAU Mechatronics Engineering Internship Introduction Letter (STF-0)".
2- The student may fill in the Internship Application Form (STF-1) electronically using any PDF reader (the form is specially designed to be filled in electronically; only text may be entered in text fields and only numbers in number fields; select dates from the drop-down menu that opens to the right of the relevant field). Once completed, the form is printed out and approved by the company.
3- The Mandatory Internship Form (STF-2) is also filled in electronically using any PDF reader, in line with the internship dates stated in the Internship Application Form (the form is specially designed to be filled in electronically; only text may be entered in text fields and only numbers in number fields; select dates from the drop-down menu that opens to the right of the relevant field).
These two forms, STF-1 and STF-2 (the version completed on the computer, not a photo of it), are sent by e-mail to the MCH department internship coordinator (mch.summertraining@eng.bau.edu.tr). The internship coordinator will give you feedback on your application. **The documents must be sent at least 3 business days before the start of the internship. For approved applications, the steps below must be followed. Students whose applications are not accepted update their applications in line with the coordinator's recommendations.
4- The student obtains internship insurance. Internship insurance procedures are carried out by the BAU Human Resources Office. Insurance procedures can be completed no earlier than 1 month and no later than three days before the internship start date. Please visit https://bau.edu.tr/icerik/3208-insan-kaynaklari-daire-baskanligi-staj-yonergesi and complete all the steps there.
Steps to Follow During the Internship:
1- Throughout the internship, the student must fill in the Internship Report of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering on a computer, in accordance with the criteria under the "Format Requirements" heading in the same report. The internship report consists of two main parts: "daily reports" and the "general report" (Introduction, About the Company, Practical Training and Conclusion sections).
2- At the end of the internship, the internship supervisor at the host company reviews the internship report that the student has filled in on the computer, printed out and bound, and either approves the content of the report (signs the sections containing the daily and general reports and stamps them with the company seal) or requests corrections.
3- After approving the internship report, the internship supervisor at the host company evaluates the student's internship work by filling in the Internship Record Form, which the intern gives to them (with a photo of the student attached). The company internship supervisor signs the internship record form, stamps it with the company seal and hands it to the student in a sealed envelope.
Steps to Follow After the Internship:
1- For internships completed during academic break periods (summer or winter), the student selects either or both of the MCH3995 Summer Internship I and MCH4995 Summer Internship II courses during the course selection week of the first academic semester following the internship dates. If the internship is completed during the semester (the fall or spring teaching period), the student selects the internship courses during the course selection week of the semester in which the internship takes place.
2- The student submits the internship application document completed in accordance with the format and approved by the company internship supervisor, the internship report, the record form and other required documents to the internship committee, according to the submission method announced on the itslearning site, within the relevant academic semester, by the end of the 4th week of the academic semester in which the internship course is taken.
3- The reports are evaluated by the department internship committee. A student whose internship report is found satisfactory in terms of content, and who has also submitted the application and record forms and other requested documents on time, passes the internship course at the end of the semester (receives an "S" grade).
4- Reports found insufficient in terms of content as a result of the evaluation are reported to the students, who are given 2 weeks to make the necessary corrections. A student whose internship report is still found unsatisfactory in terms of content after correction is not given a second correction right for the same internship report. In this case, the student fails the internship course at the end of the semester (receives a "U" grade) and must repeat the internship at a different company.
5- A student whose internship report is found satisfactory in terms of content but who is missing either or both of the application/record forms fails the internship course at the end of the semester (receives a "U" grade). If such a student completes the missing documents, they may select the relevant internship course again in the following semester and request that their internship report be re-evaluated. This right is granted only once per internship.
6- The time limit for submitting the report of a completed internship is two academic semesters, starting from the day after the internship end date. Internship reports submitted after this period will under no circumstances be evaluated (an internship submitted in the 3rd semester following the internship will not be evaluated).
Frequently Asked Questions:
Before Starting the Internship
- I completed my first year (end of the 2nd semester) at the end of the spring semester. Can I do my mandatory internship during the summer break?
No, you cannot. Our students may complete their first internship after taking the 2nd year courses at the earliest (4th semester), and their second internship after taking the 3rd year courses at the earliest.
- I am an irregular student (students who start the 1st year in the spring semester). I completed my first semester at the end of the spring semester. Can I do my mandatory internship during the summer break?
No, you cannot. Irregular students may start their first internship at the end of the 3rd semester at the earliest and their second internship at the end of the 5th semester.
- Can I do my second internship where I did my previous internship?
We see the mandatory internship as a very important opportunity for our students to become familiar with real-life experiences. From previous experience, we observe that the experience and knowledge gained during the internship make a significant contribution to our students in real working life. To maximize this contribution, we would like our students to gain experience at different companies. For these reasons, as a principle, we do not consider it appropriate for our students to complete both mandatory internships at small and medium-sized companies.
However, since each of the different departments of large-scale companies (for example, Arçelik, Vestel, Beko, Mercedes-Benz, Fiat, Renault, THY Teknik, Aselsan, etc.) is equivalent to an independent company in terms of quality and size, students may, if they wish, complete their two mandatory internships in different departments of large companies, provided that they obtain approval from the department internship coordinator.
If the two internships are completed at different companies, the units may be the same (for example, both production units). However, if both internships are completed at the same company, the units must be different (for example, one production and the other quality control).
-I have sent messages to the internship e-mail many times but have not received a response. What should I do?
If you are sure that you sent your message to the correct e-mail address stated above, you should wait for the specified maximum period (3 business days) to pass. You should also take care not to send multiple e-mails on the same matter within short periods of time. Apart from these situations, you can contact the internship coordinator mentioned above.

Bahçeşehir University covers the internship insurance of all its students for the dates of their internship.
- I am an international student. Do I also have to be insured during the mandatory internship?
Yes, you must be insured. It is a legal requirement that all our students who complete an internship are insured, regardless of their nationality and whether the internship takes place in Türkiye or abroad.
- The company where I will do my internship is abroad. Do I also have to be insured during the internship?
Yes, you must be insured. It is a legal requirement that all our students who complete an internship are insured, regardless of their nationality and whether the internship takes place in Türkiye or abroad.
- What should I do if there is any change in my internship dates after receiving the SGK employment entry declaration?
You will need to apply to the BAU Human Resources Office again with a new company letter showing this change.
- I already have insurance that was started earlier and is paid regularly. Do I also need internship insurance?
Students who already have insurance that was started earlier and is paid regularly must also apply to the Human Resources Office for internship insurance.
- I want to do a voluntary internship to improve myself. Will Bahçeşehir University cover my internship insurance?
The BAU Human Resources Office provides insurance for all internships of students who wish to complete more than the two mandatory internships. For example, a student who completes 4 internships during their education will have all 4 insured by the university; however, only two of the internships approved by the department will count as mandatory internships.
- I want to do a voluntary internship to improve myself. What should I do?
From the internship forms, fill in the "Internship Application Form (STF-1)" and have it approved, and also fill in the "Mandatory Internship Form (STF-2)". Send the two forms to the department internship e-mail address, stating that you would like to do a voluntary internship. The internship coordinator will guide you through the remaining steps.
