The Department of English Language Teaching aims to train teachers who have acquired an advanced level of English proficiency as well as a high level of understanding and skills required for language teaching. Considering the latest developments in the field, students are provided with a solid foundation in the English language and literacy, methodology, first and second language acquisition, educational sciences and linguistics so that they become fully qualified teachers of English in primary, secondary and tertiary educational institutions.
Students are engaged in a comprehensive program which aims to improve their language skills as well as professional skills and knowledge, so that they can effectively carry out their profession. They are also provided with teaching practice opportunities starting from the first year up to the last year to ensure that they are getting familiar with the educational system in private and state schools, and also, are developing their teaching skills and experiences.
The Department of English Language Teaching cooperates with the Graduate School in conducting graduate programs leading to MA and PhD degrees in English Language Education.
Mission:
The primary goal of BAU English Language Teaching undergraduate program is to train English language teachers, qualified to educate individuals who can effectively use the foreign language in line with the framework of the national and international education policies of the Republic of Turkey by also being committed to Atatürk’s principles, and to train teachers who have a command of current foreign language teaching approaches and methods, who are able to plan and implement the education and teaching process according to contemporary educational methods, and who are also open to development with their researcher identity.
Vision Statement:
Our objective, in line with the primary goal of the BAU English Language Teaching undergraduate program, is to provide teacher candidates with more intense experience and opportunities to observe education in schools within the scope of the existing internship program with the aim of training English teachers who are more competent in using technology and who are more passionate about the teaching profession. Additionally, with the support of our academic staff who conduct intensive research and disseminate their knowledge by publishing their research internationally, we aim to provide educational support to teachers and administrators involved in educational activities at different levels, depending on the areas of expertise of our academic staff, within the scope of in-service teacher training activities.
