Turkish and Foreign Languages Application and Research Center - Levels
The levels of our courses have been designed in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). These levels and their descriptions are as follows:
| A1 | A student who completes this level can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic sentences aimed at meeting concrete needs. They can introduce themselves and others, and can ask and answer questions about personal details (such as where someone lives and people they know). They can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. |
|---|---|
| A2 | A student who completes this level can understand sentences and frequently used expressions in straightforward speech (e.g., information about themselves, their family, shopping, work and immediate surroundings). They can communicate in simple and routine situations and give simple, direct accounts of familiar and routine matters. They can describe in simple terms their background, education, immediate environment and matters of immediate need. |
| B1 | A student who completes this level can understand the main points of clear standard language on familiar matters such as school, work and leisure. They can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in places where Turkish is spoken. They can express themselves simply and coherently on familiar topics and areas of personal interest. They can describe events and experiences, dreams, hopes and goals, and briefly give reasons and explanations for their opinions. |
| B2 | A student who completes this level can understand the content of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including discussions in their own field. They can interact with a Turkish speaker spontaneously and fluently in an ordinary conversation without much strain for either party. They can express themselves clearly and in detail on a wide range of subjects. They can give their personal opinion on a current issue and set out the advantages and disadvantages of various options. |
| C1 | A student who completes this level can understand long, content-rich texts written in various fields and recognize implicit meaning. They express themselves spontaneously and fluently without frequently having to search for a word they do not know or cannot remember. They can use the language flexibly and effectively in everyday life, at work, in vocational training and in higher education. They can express themselves clearly, precisely and systematically in complex situations, using different strategies to connect with other texts. A student who completes this level can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. They can summarize information from written or spoken sources, reconstruct arguments and present them coherently. They can express themselves fluently and fully spontaneously, clearly conveying finer shades of meaning even in complex situations. |
