Department of Medical Biochemistry
Biochemistry is a branch of science that studies the chemical structure of living organisms and the organization and functions of these structures at the molecular level. The functions of molecules, cells, tissues or organs are determined by their structures. Understanding the structures, functional groups and reactions of chemical compounds is extremely important in the study of biochemistry. Today, biochemistry is developing in two branches: basic and clinical. Basic biochemistry knowledge forms the scaffolding for all subsequent courses in medical school and provides the fundamental knowledge that enables human metabolism and diseases to be understood and examined at the molecular level. Medical biochemistry aims to understand the chemical structures and processes that make up health and disease and that underlie the transitions between these two states. Clinical biochemistry is an important applied sub-discipline of medical biochemistry. It covers the methodology and interpretation of biochemical tests performed on body fluids and tissues to support the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of disease. As the Department of Biochemistry, our mission is to equip our students with basic and clinical biochemistry knowledge and skills in order to prepare them for medical practice of the highest standard in the future. To this end, the department aims to offer our students theoretical and practical courses with up-to-date biochemistry knowledge, to encourage the production of high-quality scientific research, and to graduate qualified physicians equipped with the knowledge, skills and values required to meet the demands of science.
