Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology - Education

Students trained in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology are expected to gain the competencies to take patient histories, apply and interpret examination and radiographic techniques for the diagnosis of oral and dental diseases, and reach an accurate diagnosis based on the data obtained. In addition, students are expected to be knowledgeable and aware of radiation doses used for diagnostic purposes in dentistry, the biological effects of radiation and the rational use of radiation sources, to inform patients correctly, and to protect themselves, their staff and patients from the harmful effects of radiation.

After graduation, dentistry graduates who wish to continue their education in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology can apply to Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs at universities' Graduate Schools or be placed in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology specialization programs by taking the Dentistry Specialization Exam (DUS). Colleagues who earn the title of PhD or Specialist Dentist can serve in private or public health institutions or continue their careers as academics at universities.
