ENG1003

ENG1003 course is designed for students whose medium of instruction is English in order to develop their academic language skills they may need throughout their academic and professional lives. While the course aims to enhance students’ critical thinking skills, it subsumes content that constitutes the cornerstones of the academic world such as reading and analyzing academic texts, developing academic vocabulary, paraphrasing, summarizing, quoting and referencing. In terms of content, the course is implemented by utilizing materials that entail contemporary topics which are collaboratively prepared by the instructors of the Department of Modern Languages with the primary purpose of fulfilling the needs of the students. This course is 3 credits and planned to be 2 hours theoretical (synchronous) and 2 hours practice-based (asynchronous).

ENG1004

ENG1004 course is designed for students whose medium of instruction is English in order to develop their academic language skills they may need throughout their academic and professional lives. Besides utilizing the knowledge they acquired in the ENG 1003 course, the students focus on synthesizing the information drawn from various sources by evaluating their reliability and using that information to support their arguments in their writing. In terms of content, the course is implemented by utilizing materials that entail contemporary topics which are collaboratively prepared by the instructors of the Department of Modern Languages with the primary purpose of fulfilling the needs of the students. This course is 3 credits and planned to be 2 hours theoretical (synchronous) and 2 hours practice-based (asynchronous).

* There is no prerequisite for ENG 1004. However, this course is designed to be a continuation of ENG 1003.

ENG1061 – ENGLISH I – FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

ENG1061 aims to improve students’ language skills and prepare them linguistically for their occupations.  The course caters to learners who want to study more effectively and to prepare for a career in healthcare and nursing. The course combines carefully administered development of English-language skills with coverage of key aspects of healthcare and nursing. The level of the course, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference - CEFR- is A2-B1. The credit of the course is 2 and the time allocated for the course is 2 hours in a week. The topics like the world of healthcare, the Primary Care Team, conversations with patients, jobs in healthcare, hard and soft skills are covered throughout the term.

ENG1062 – ENGLISH II – FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

ENG1062 aims to advance students’ language skills and prepare them linguistically for their careers. The course caters to learners who want to study more effectively and to prepare for a career in healthcare and nursing. The course combines carefully managed development of English-language skills with coverage of key aspects of healthcare and nursing. The level of the course, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference – CEFR - is A2-B1.  The credit of the course is 2 and the time allocated for the course is 2 hours in a week. The topics like services provided by doctors, hospitals, the healthcare supply chain, patient care and satisfaction, what makes healthcare professionals successful, private and public healthcare are covered throughout the term. 

ENG1063 – ENGLISH III – FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

ENG1063 aims to improve promote students’ language skills and prepare them linguistically for their professions.  The course caters to learners who want to study more effectively and to prepare for a career in healthcare and nursing. The course combines carefully controlled development of English-language skills with coverage of key aspects of healthcare and nursing. The level of the course, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference – CEFR -  is A2-B1. The credit of the course is 2 and the time allocated for the course is 2 hours in a week. The topics like the motivation in healthcare, ways to motivate workers, different kinds of nurses, developing a career in nursing and dealing with patients are covered throughout the term.

ENG1064 – ENGLISH IV – FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

ENG1064 aims to develop students’ language skills and prepare them linguistically for their occupations. The course caters for to learners who want to study more effectively and to prepare for a career in healthcare and nursing. The course combines carefully contrived development of English-language skills with coverage of key aspects of healthcare and nursing. The topics that will be covered during the term are the world of nursing, such as meeting colleagues, nursing assessment, nursing duties, and Food and Measurements in Nursing.

ENG1072 – ENGLISH II – VOCATIONAL SCHOOL OF HEALTH SERVICES

ENG1072 aims to upgrade students’ language skills and prepare them linguistically for their vocations.  The course is designed for learners who want to study more effectively and to prepare for a career in nursing, child development and dentistry. The course combines carefully managed development of English-language skills with coverage of key aspects of healthcare and nursing. The level of the course is, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference – CEFR -  A2.  The credit of the course is 2 and the time allocated for the course is 3 hours in a week. The topics that will be covered during the term are services offered by doctors and nurses, physiotherapy, medication, the hospital team, and treatment of the elderly.
