As a research-centered medical faculty, with the philosophy of education based on the direct cooperation between academics and students, succeeded a first-time in its field of study.
The first fruits of the attention given to science have been reaped in BAU-TIP where students of medical faculty, find the opportunity to work together with academics through “Mentor of Science” from the very first year of their education in the university. As a reflection of “Student – Mentor of Science” work, the cooperative work named “Kinetic and in silico studies of hydroxy-based inhibitors of carbonic anhydrase isoforms 1 and 2” of Associate Professor Serdar Durdağı from BAU Medical Faculty, Department of Biophysics and a freshman in BAU Medical Faculty Mert Mestanoğlu, was published in an international magazine, Journal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry.
The aforementioned research made in Bahcesehir University Medical Faculty, Computational Biology and Molecular Simulations Laboratoires, aims to contribute to the “Computer Assisted Drug Design” which is widely-recognized as a very important project in terms of completing the phases of drug research and development process within a shorter and safer notice and with a lower budget.
THERE IS NO NEED TO WAIT UNTIL ASSISTANSHIP FOR SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATION
Associate Professor of Department of Biophysics and Deputy Dean of Medical Faculty of BAU, Serdar Durdağı by stating that, through the importance that they attach to basic sciences they have started “Student-Mentor of Science” said: “As BAU-TIP, we wish our students to become not only good doctors but also highly educated and developed researchers in their working areas. Therefore, to achieve these goals, we strive for our students to develop their academic activities to this purpose.” Associate Prof. Serdar Durdağı who talked about the poster presentations in congress as well as scientific publications also said: “The works of our students under the auspices of research projects are now published in the high impact factor international magazines. Our students also present their projects in highly respected local and international congress. Among our freshmen students Ebru Gökdemir and Mert Mestanoğlu presented the outcomes of the project they were involved, called ;Kinetic and in silico studies of hydroxy-based inhibitors of carbonic anhydrase isoforms 1 and 2, with 2 poster notifications in an event called 3rd Anticancer Agent Development Congress in 18th-19th May 2015 in İzmir. We will send the article upon the outcomes of those projects to one of the most highly esteemed scientific magazines in a short notice.”
