Audiology Undergraduate Program Launched
What Is Audiology?
Audiology is the evaluation of hearing and of the auditory and balance systems. The fields of audiology include developing and applying appropriate tools, methods, and techniques so that this evaluation can be carried out in clinical or experimental settings, and interpreting the results; applying appropriate rehabilitation methods for hearing loss and balance problems (hearing aids/cochlear implants/auditory training/vestibular rehabilitation); and preparing and implementing hearing conservation and early intervention programs (newborn hearing screenings, noise protection programs).
The authority to practice in the science and health field of audiology is represented by the professional called the "audiologist." Since 2011, audiology has been a profession defined and officially recognized by the state of the Republic of Türkiye. As the scope of services is very broad and the number of trained professionals is small, launching undergraduate education in audiology has become inevitable.
The Department of Audiology, established within the Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Health Sciences, offers a four-year undergraduate program. Its graduates are awarded the title of "audiologist." Audiologists have broad employment opportunities, mainly in hospitals, the private sector, universities, special education institutions, and the public sector.
