Head of BAU Global Enver Yücel joined the conference on the Syrian refugees organized by the Washington based Global Policy Institute and elaborated on investment into training the Syrian refugees in Turkey.
Syrian refugees were addressed in the conference joined by the Palestine Ambassador of the United Nations Dr. Riad H. Mansour, Head of CAIR (CAIR) Nihad Awad, Head of GPI Prof. Walid Phares, Dr. Halil Mutlu, BAU Global CEO Enver Yücel, New York University academic Prof. Selçuk Şirin, representatives of the American government and of various non-governmental organizations and held in the National Press Club in Washington D.C.
The conference presented applicable policies that might contribute to the displaced people and their integration to the countries that they settle in, entitled “Syria: Past, Today and the Future” organized by Global Policy Institute (GPI) as a contribution to the struggle of international community to come up with a solution for the refugee influx from the Middle East to Europe and the ever enlargening humanitarian crisis.
The keynote speaker, the Palestine Ambassador of the United Nations, Dr. Riad H. Mansour, approached the issue from a comparative point of view and raised the question “Is it possible to draw lessons out of the Palestine issue? Whereas the New York University academic Prof. Selçuk Şirin delivered a presentation regarding the situation of the Syrians living in Turkey, which hosts the most number of the refugees across the world.
5 THOUSAND TEACHERS WILL TEACH TURKISH TO 300 THOUSAND REFUGEE CHILDREN
Addressing the global aspect of the refugee crisis and focusing on the educational aspect of the issue, Head of BAU Global Enver Yücel, underscored that they invested 3 million dollars more for the Syrian refugees this year. Moreover, he stated that they raised 150 teachers so that they could teach Turkish to the Syrian refugees and mentioned their goal to teach Turkish to 5 thousand via 300 thousand students this year. Yücel underscored that although 4-5 years passed since the World Economic Forum held in Davos, many world leaders are still discussing about the refugee issue. He went on as follows: “It is all clear. The war in Syria will stop and the refugees will be trained and sent back to their countries. Material and immaterial power is required to do that. Turkey spent well above 9 billion dollars and the EU countries are discussing as to whether they will contribute 3 billion dollars or not. I ask the following question to the European countries: What is the worth of a refugee child for you? Could you be scared of a child of 1 or 10 years of age? To what extent does it suit the European Union to close the borders so as not to take those people in?”
