Houses Have Biggest Obstacles
In Turkey, there are about nine million handicapped people and 700.000 of them are visually challenged. Although there have been many R&D efforts carried out until today to make the lives of visually challenged people easier, no concrete projects have been developed to enable them meet their basic needs at their homes. Handicapped people get benefits from various institutions and corporations, such as transportation, education, participating in cultural activities, communication. However, technological developments that can enable them meet their basic needs alone at home are not sufficient. Researches show that visually challenged people, when they are alone at home, are not able to meet their many needs at homes which are not built with a proper architecture fitting to the standards of handicapped people. It is more difficulty for them to be a part of social life as they are even not able to meet their basic needs by themselves at their own homes. With Bahçeşehir University Vocational School’s Non-Handicapped House Project, it is aimed to offer the comfort of electronic equipments and meet the demands and needs of handicapped people.
How the Non-handicapped House is equipped?
