American Culture and Literature
Established in 2006, the Department of American Culture and Literature is basically a program of literature and culture which offers courses on the formation and development of various movements in western literature, culture, art and history. This approach aims to provide students with the ability and equipment to draw on American culture and literature to look critically and comparatively at different literatures and cultures.
The program has a comprehensive structure that covers various disciplines including literature, history, mythology, drama and translation. As part of this curriculum, students are also taught the basics of translation. The content richness of the program is in line with the general education philosophy of Bahçeşehir University, which aims to help students develop “a multi-faceted and general culture in various fields”. The courses offered by the department of American Culture and Literature can be taken as “non-departmental electives” by students who pursue their education in other faculties of Bahçeşehir University.
