These are just a few of the questions that economists ask and strive to answer. Many people think that the field of economics is solely concerned with topics such as exchange rates, interest rates, and national income. Indeed, understanding economics requires knowledge about exchange rates, the causes of inflation, the effects of interest rates, and the determinants of national income. However, an education in economics encompasses much more. A solid education in economics changes your perspective on the world and how you perceive events around you.
What is Economics?
The concepts and tools you learn in the Department of Economics not only help you understand the functioning of economies, inflation, and interest rates but also enable you to explain economic phenomena around you that you may never have noticed before. This should come as no surprise, as many events and phenomena around you are related to individuals’ efforts to use limited resources effectively for specific purposes. Put simply, economics is a social science that examines the production, consumption, and distribution relationships that people engage in to sustain their livelihoods.
A strong education in economics not only prepares you for good positions in banks, public institutions, or corporations but also equips those who wish to pursue an academic career with the necessary skills to better understand economic events. Today, economists occupy management positions at many economic and financial institutions that are central to economic policymaking.
At the Department of Economics within Bahçeşehir University’s Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, you will receive a world-class economics education guided by an academic staff who have completed undergraduate, master's, and doctoral studies at leading universities.
