DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY
Psychology is a branch of science that deals with and examines human beings as a whole with their emotions, thoughts and behaviors, and produces knowledge and methods for applications aimed at changing human behavior and solving problems. Students who want to specialize in various sub-branches of psychology (such as Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Neuropsychology, Forensic Psychology, Health Psychology, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Social Psychology, Sports Psychology and Educational Psychology) first receive basic psychology education. During this training, basic courses such as research methods and statistics are given, as well as compulsory courses introducing the main fields of psychology and various elective courses.
PROGRAM
The department courses in the first two years of the curriculum of Bahçeşehir University Psychology Department primarily aim to provide students with basic knowledge in the field of psychology. Starting from the second year, in addition to the departmental courses, students are required to take General Elective courses such as foreign language, philosophy, history, music, etc. to strengthen their world view and gain additional skills. In the second half of the curriculum, students can take elective courses related to the sub-fields they are interested in. In these courses, students are expected to apply their knowledge in the field covered by the course by using their basic field knowledge rather than transferring knowledge to a large extent. Students who complete the 130-credit course load required by the program are entitled to receive the title of psychologist as a graduate.
Within the scope of educational facilities in our Psychology Department, there are Brain and Cognition Research Laboratory and closed system mirrored Observation-Interview Laboratories to be used in research and courses. In addition, the Psychology Research and Application Center (PUAM) was established within the Department of Psychology. The Graduate School offers graduate programs in Clinical Psychology and Cognitive Neuropsychology.
DEPARTMENT'S OBJECTIVE
BAU Psychology Department aims to produce and disseminate knowledge that contributes to science, the field and society by conducting research that addresses current questions and problems in basic and applied fields. With an educational approach that emphasizes questioning and critical thinking, BAU Psychology Department aims to train psychologists who observe universal values, can analyze and synthesize, and are sensitive to ethical values.
MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT
The main aim of Bahçeşehir University Psychology Department is to educate graduates who have mastered research and statistical methods, have gained a perspective on the basic subfields of psychology, and are aware of ethical principles. The faculty members of the Department of Psychology, as academicians who follow contemporary research methods and current developments in their fields, guide students in the light of this information. It is both an academic and a social responsibility to train qualified psychologists through undergraduate and graduate education. The international and pioneering nature of these teaching activities will serve the vision of the department. It is clear that in order to train highly qualified psychologists, the quality of those who want to be involved in this process is as important as the teaching services and opportunities offered. In this respect, it is important to be a department that the young people of our country prefer in the first place when choosing a university and a department.
AIMS OF THE DEPARTMENT
Within this vision and mission, Bahçeşehir University Psychology Department has four general objectives:
To train psychologists who have acquired the basic knowledge and skills to carry out professional practice and research related to their field of study,
To contribute to the development and dissemination of the science of psychology through their studies,
To offer the knowledge and skills acquired in the field of psychology to those in need on a voluntary basis when necessary, and
To be based on the principles of professional ethics and practice in realizing the above-mentioned objectives

Accreditation
As a result of the examination carried out by the “Accreditation Unit for Psychology Programs” of the Turkish Psychological Association authorized by YÖK, Bahçeşehir University Psychology Department Undergraduate Program has been accredited as of 23.03.2017 and its accreditation is valid until 2027.

Since its foundation, our department has maintained its goal of being a department that is recognized nationally and internationally with its scientific research and publications, fulfills its social responsibilities with pioneering practices and is preferred by students with its qualified education.
In this direction, the academic staff of our department is one of the leading psychology departments of our country with its diversity in areas of specialization, its activity in scientific production, and its teaching qualifications.
APPLICATION POSSIBILITIES
Laboratories
The specializations of the faculty members of the department represent all the main sub-branches of psychology. Accordingly, our faculty members are specialized in cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, clinical psychology, social psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, developmental psychology and neuroscience, and continue their research activities in these fields. The activities of the laboratories and the Psychology Research Center are as follows:
Brain and Cognition Research Laboratory: Research is conducted to investigate the behavioral and neurobiological basis of cognitive processes (attention, memory, executive functions and metacognition) and the neurobiological (brain) basis of these processes is investigated by electroencephalography (EEG). The laboratory has a 64-channel EEG system, isolated room insulated with copper and necessary software.
Observation-Interview Laboratories: Observation, interview and research in the fields of clinical, developmental and social psychology are carried out in the laboratory with mirrored rooms that can record audio and video.
Psychology Application and Research Center (PUAM): PUAM brings together the research units and laboratories of the Department of Psychology under one roof and coordinates scientific studies. In addition, PUAM aims to provide training and activities that will contribute to the education of our undergraduate and graduate students, as well as for the benefit of society and disadvantaged groups.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
After completing the necessary training, psychology graduates can work in various private and public institutions and organizations, hospitals and counseling centers that provide psychological counseling and therapy; in various educational institutions and private company units; in areas such as personnel selection, placement, evaluation, training, personnel and public communication. They can work in various fields such as advertising, public relations, sales and marketing, media, market research and similar service sectors. Nurseries, kindergartens, kindergartens and schools, neurology and rehabilitation centers, research institutions, and administrative and research staff of certain ministries (e.g., the Mental Health Department of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Justice, etc.) employ psychology graduates in various positions.
