Director's Message

Bahçeşehir University School of Applied Sciences was established in 2007 under Bahçeşehir University, a global brand in education. Our School admitted its first students in the 2015-2016 academic year to the Department of Gastronomy, which offers instruction in Turkish.

As a second step, the infrastructure and academic preparations for the Department of Pilotage, regarded as one of the professions of the future, were completed, and the necessary approvals were obtained to admit students to this department in the 2019-2020 academic year with instruction in English.

The fundamental principle in establishing the School of Applied Sciences and its departments and in starting education has been to provide education that is closely intertwined with practice, rather than merely teaching knowledge. Through the learning-by-doing model, with education and practice delivered at the same time, students graduate equipped with both knowledge and practical skills in the profession they have chosen and studied.

The name School of Applied Sciences is sometimes confused with vocational schools. Schools of Applied Sciences offer four-year undergraduate education, just like conventional faculties. What distinguishes them from other faculties is that profession-based practice is much more intensive, and that they provide students with an education that allows them to start working in their profession in the business world as soon as they graduate. In addition to adapting quickly to the business world, graduates of the School of Applied Sciences departments can, if they wish, continue their academic careers by pursuing master's and doctoral degrees like graduates of other faculties.

Another advantage of the School of Applied Sciences departments is that students gain work experience while they are still students. Throughout their studies, our students acquire highly valuable professional experience through the hands-on practice they encounter and the internships they complete thanks to our University's close relationships with industry companies. Due to the international demand for graduates of applied departments, the doors of the business world will be open to our graduates in every country. Our fundamental goal is to ensure the excellence of our education quality and to continuously improve and maintain it at the highest level, so that our students can represent our country abroad in the best possible way. In line with this aim, the necessary support is provided and all investments are made to turn our departments into globally recognized brands.

In conclusion, we can say that at the School of Applied Sciences we go beyond learning. Our aim is to teach theory within practice and educate our students in the most well-equipped way under the guidance of science and with the deep-rooted educational culture of our institution, enabling them to make a difference in the business world. In our excellent facilities, which our academic staff and researchers can also make the most of, and in our peaceful environments, our students become ready for tomorrow through our research- and production-oriented approach to teaching and our forward-looking vision.

As Bahçeşehir University School of Applied Sciences, it is a source of honor and happiness for us not to settle for giving our students an academic diploma, but, through our practice-based education, to make them valuable individuals equipped with all the professional skills and the scientific and academic competencies that our country and the world need.
