Department of Medical Pathology
The Department of Medical Pathology is a department that, in addition to the education of second- and third-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, carries out numerous projects and research studies. In the second year, general pathology and systemic pathology courses are taught intensively; in the first three blocks of the third year, common diseases are examined in terms of signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, based on correlating pathology with clinical practice. In the department, cases referred for consultation from other hospitals, primarily the hospital the Faculty of Medicine collaborates with, are diagnosed using conventional histochemistry and immunohistochemistry methods in addition to routine procedures. In tumor cases, the department works in collaboration with Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology and contributes to treatment with additional staining methods that affect treatment decisions and predict the course of the disease. Faculty member Prof. Dr. Özlem Yapıcıer contributes to the education of Neuroscience master's and doctoral students through her courses on neuropathology, her area of expertise.
