Prof. Dr. Gülden ÇELİK and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rabia Can Sarinoğlu serve at the Bahçeşehir University Department of Medical Microbiology.
The Department of Medical Microbiology is an education- and research-oriented department. In Phase 1, students are introduced to Medical Microbiology in the first year; in the second year, theoretical courses on general microbiology, bacteriology, tuberculosis, virology, immunology, parasitology, mycology, molecular microbiology and diagnostic techniques are delivered in parallel with practical training. In the first three blocks of the third year, infectious diseases are addressed from a Clinical Microbiology perspective with a systemic approach, covering causative microorganisms, the most up-to-date diagnostic methods and their interpretation, effective antimicrobials and prevention, with the aim of ensuring that students are fully equipped in medical microbiology before entering clinical practice. The department also contributes to Problem-Based Learning and offers the elective course "HIV/AIDS and STD: Recent Developments in Diagnosis and Treatments". Faculty members actively serve in sub-working groups of their professional association (Clinical Virology and Sexually Transmitted Infections Working Group) and are also members of the national advisory board in their areas of expertise (National HIV/AIDS Advisory Board). In addition, they encourage students to take part in research projects and strive to contribute to the mission of the BAU Faculty of Medicine.
