The Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies aims to train qualified and well-equipped translators who specialize in Turkish and English languages and cultures, proficient in at least one foreign language other than English at an advanced level, capable of providing expert-level intercultural communication, and able to work in the national and international translation industry.
The Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies trains professional translators and interpreters who have learned to conduct research, adopted lifelong learning as a principle, and are knowledgeable about constantly changing conditions in line with the expectations of the sector and technological advances. It aims that its graduates use technology to the best of their ability, and work in accordance with the ethical values of the translation profession.
Bahçeşehir University Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies trains translators who can work in government institutions, the localization sector, press and publishing, media organizations, trade and tourism-related companies, law firms and international conferences, responding to the increasing need for translation, taking into account the country's international relations.
The Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies offers theoretical and practical courses to help students improve their translation skills. In addition to translation courses, students take courses in Political Science, Economics, Literature, History, etc., to develop their terminological skills and knowledge about the fields to which the texts they translate relate. Translation and interpreting courses are taken jointly for the first three years. At the end of the third year, an interpreting aptitude test is administered. Students selected for the Interpreting module undergo training to specialize in interpreting. In both modules, the aim is to combine students' theoretical knowledge with practice. Activities and student projects that bring students and the industry together also aim to familiarize students with the real world of translation.
