Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (English)
A physiotherapist is a healthcare professional trained to provide physiotherapy and rehabilitation services for congenital or acquired diseases, disorders, and injuries, as well as to implement preventive physiotherapy practices aimed at protecting and promoting health. In this context, physiotherapists are specialists who utilize contemporary assessment and measurement methods to determine individuals’ physiotherapy and rehabilitation needs, and who plan and implement personalized physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs.
In line with their professional education, physiotherapists adopt preventive, corrective, and health-enhancing approaches by addressing the comprehensive needs of patients, their families, healthy individuals, and society as a whole. Improving quality of life and promoting sustainable health development constitute the core professional vision of the discipline.
Established in 2013 with a contemporary and evidence-based educational approach, the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Bahçeşehir University aims to educate competent physiotherapists who embrace universal ethical and scientific values, demonstrate a strong sense of professional responsibility, and possess innovative and research-oriented perspectives. With its strong academic staff and practice-oriented education model, the Department aims to contribute to the advancement of health sciences through research.
To enable students to effectively translate theoretical knowledge into practice, the Department offers a comprehensive laboratory infrastructure. Educational and research activities are conducted in seven laboratories, including two physiotherapy and rehabilitation practice laboratories, one electrotherapy and physical modalities laboratory, two biomechanics and kinesiology laboratories, one virtual reality laboratory, and one anatomy laboratory. These laboratories actively support the development of clinical skills, assessment and evaluation processes, and scientific research at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

The professional scope of physiotherapists continues to expand. In hospitals, they may work in medical departments such as Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, and Internal Medicine, as well as in surgical departments including Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Obstetrics and Urogynecology, General Surgery, Hand Surgery, and in Emergency and Intensive Care Units.
Outside hospital settings, physiotherapists may be employed in rehabilitation centers, specialty clinics, public health centers, rehabilitation centers for individuals with intellectual, visual, and hearing disabilities, care and education centers for children and older adults, vocational rehabilitation centers, municipalities and ministries, sports and fitness centers, sports clubs, home care and rehabilitation services, as well as in schools and industrial settings
