Directorate of Human Resources – Internship Directive
ATTENTION TO ALL BAHÇEŞEHİR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WHO WILL UNDERTAKE AN INTERNSHIP!
Dear Students, it is a legal requirement for students to be insured during their internship period. Insurance procedures are carried out by the Human Resources Office, Internship Procedures Unit. In accordance with current legislation, information regarding the insurance process for our students undertaking internships, as well as general considerations and procedures to be followed, is provided below.
Students who will undertake an internship must submit the required documents in PDF format to the Human Resources Office, Internship Procedures Unit via [email protected] no earlier than 1 month before the internship start date and no later than 5 days before the internship start date. For example, a student whose internship start date is 16.01.2023 must submit the documents between 17.12.2022 and 09.01.2023 to [email protected]. Due to the operation of the Social Security Institution (SGK) system, internship insurance procedures cannot be completed if there is more than one month remaining before the internship start date.
If the insurance registration process is not completed, the legal requirement will not be fulfilled, and internships of students without completed insurance registration will be considered invalid. Therefore, timely submission is of critical importance.
As of 05.12.2022, applications submitted through channels other than [email protected] will not be accepted. Internship insurance applications will only be accepted during working hours on weekdays (08:30–17:00). Applications submitted outside working hours or on weekends will not be processed; therefore, you must resubmit your application during working hours.
After the online application, the SGK Internship Insurance Employment Entry Declaration sent to the student’s email address must be submitted by the student to the company where the internship will take place. If there is any change in the internship dates after receiving the SGK employment entry declaration, the student must reapply to the Human Resources Office, Internship Procedures Unit with a new company letter indicating the updated dates.

- Photograph (1 copy)
- Residence certificate (proof of address) or a utility bill registered in the student’s name
- Internship requirement form issued by the Faculty
- A stamped and signed letter from the company where the internship will take place (either Petition-1 or Petition-2 may be completed as appropriate; the company stamp is mandatory), or a petition written on the company’s letterhead or bearing the company stamp
Students undertaking a full-time internship must apply with Petition-1, while students undertaking a part-time internship must apply with Petition-2, indicating the number of days they will intern per week.
- Declaration and Undertaking Document: For students subject to internship requirements in higher education, it is essential to determine whether they are considered dependents (covered by family health insurance) before submitting registration to the Social Security Institution. Therefore, obtaining a declaration and undertaking document from students is mandatory to avoid any potential legal issues.
Depending on whether the student is considered a dependent, two different procedures will be carried out by the Internship Procedures Unit:
Declaration and Undertaking-1: To be completed by students who receive health benefits through their families.
Declaration and Undertaking-2: To be completed by students who do not receive health benefits through their families.
- Work Permit Exemption Document: International students are required to obtain a work permit exemption document. Students who do not submit this document will not be registered as interns. Detailed information about the process can be accessed at: https://emuafiyet.csgb.gov.tr/welcome. The exemption application must be made for internships to be conducted within Türkiye.

For insured individuals under subparagraph (b) of paragraph 1 of Article 5 who are not dependents, the premium rate has been set at 6% of the earnings subject to premium as of 01/03/2011, in accordance with the amendment made by Article 38 of Law No. 6111 to Article 81 of the Law. Of this rate, 1% corresponds to short-term insurance branches and 5% to general health insurance premiums. As previously, the obligation to pay these premiums lies with the Ministry of National Education, the schools in which the students are enrolled, or the higher education institutions they attend. As of 01/03/2011, employers are no longer required to submit an employment entry declaration for insured individuals who are not dependents.
