In the exhibition CMHRB Within the Frame, which will be taking place in BAUEXP Gallery of Bahçeşehir University in Galata, we will bear witness to the personal and political histories, and stories, of the 11 Presidents of the Turkish Republic from its foundation to our days. As the works in the exhibition were taken by twenty different news photographers of this era, the collection also reflects the conjoint history of Turkey and Turkish news photography. By the cooperation between Depo Photos and Bahçeşehir University’s Department of Photography and Video, 160 previously unseen or rare photos come to light as the result of a collective archive study and great efforts.
Depo Photos, founded with the aim of becoming the most important source of information in terms of Turkey’s visual history, brought together an immense photographic archive that comprises more than a million frames of images - across the worlds of politics, magazine, sports and art- chosen from over 25 million photographs from the collections of 150 important news photographers, documentary photographers and collectors. As a result of this meticulous work, thousands of previously unseen and unpublished shots have been digitally scanned and archived, and about 500 thousand of these images have been uploaded to an online system. Depo will not only showcase past works but will also enable everybody to follow the works of talented contemporary photographers.
