Bahcesehir University (BAU) and Boston University (BU) have made an agreement for research partnership and doctoral student scholarship program. Under the agreement students who are awarded scholarships will be provided with a salary by Bahcesehir University and Boston University will meet the educational expenses.
The agreement between Bahcesehir University and Boston University gives BAU students who have graduated with a high rank and students who want to pursue a Master’s or Doctorate degree a chance to be nominated to start a Doctorate degree at Boston University.
PhD students who are eligible to participate in the doctoral program will be provided with a salary by Bahcesehir University and Boston University will meet the educational expenses.
While students are completing their first year PhD courses at Boston University, each year within certain periods of time they will be able to come to Turkey to be part of the projects taking place at Bahcesehir University and continue their research in the university’s laboratories.
RESEARCH TO BE DONE IN THE MEDICINE AND ENGINEERING FIELDS
With the interdisciplinary PhD program BAU Rector Dr. Senay Yalcin specifies how research will be done in many important areas, " Research will especially focus on the intersection of the medicine and engineering fields. The MD-PhD program which is part of BAU Faculty of Medicine takes place in both Bahcesehir University’s and Boston University’s laboratories. With this program students will be educated towards becoming ‘Doctors with Doctorates’. Students from other departments such as the Department of Genetics and Bioinformatics and the Department of Biomedicine will benefit from this program,” he said.
Yalçın also stated that the scientific research agreement that has been carried out with Boston University would continue, "Aside from our students having the opportunity to do research in one of the most important centers for Science in Boston, our faculty members will also be able to conduct studies in Boston University’s laboratories. With their participation the innovative and research geared center we have started with Boston University will become more active,” he said.
Prof. Selim Ünlü is the supervisor of the PhD program at Boston University, while Assist. Prof. Ayça Yalçın Özkumur is the supervisor at Bahcesehir University.
The first student eligible for support under the program Oğuzhan Avci is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Boston University and remains under the supervision of Prof. Ünlü. He is also working on research projects with Dr. Yalçın Özkumur at Bahcesehir University.
