Bahcesehir University (BAU) and HaberTürk Newspaper have created a first in Turkey with the project of 'university-press' in terms of co-operation.
The collaboration between BAU and HaberTürk Newspaper will benefit journalists of the future by allowing them to grow from the start and the young individuals within the profession of journalism will be trained and educated in order to not feel the lack of 'practical' education in the field.
This important project will begin in the 2014-2015 school year which will allow BAU Faculty of Communication 3rd and 4th grade students to work for one year by choosing between ‘elective courses’ from all areas including editors, economy, sports, magazine and secretary of page.
The coordinator department in which they work will assess students’ work.
MODEL EXAMPLE TO ALL UNIVERSITIES AND NEWSPAPERS
Within the collaboration between HaberTürk Newspaper and BAU, the university teaching staff will give some of their courses at HaberTürk newspaper and the newspaper staff will give 'branded courses' at the university.
Through this collaboration students will take courses related to the field they want to specialize and the professional practice they receive will prepare them for the business life with extra experience said Dean of BAU Faculty of Communication Dr. Fatos Adiloğlu, "student achievement assessment will be determined by the newspaper coordinator within their field and the academic faculty. New Media, Film and Television, Photography & Video, Communication Design and Public Relations departments will benefit from this collaboration and also serve as a model for other students and faculty related to communication and media organizations," she said.
During the press conference it has been indicated that this collaboration is a first. HaberTürk Newspaper Editor in Chief Selcuk Tepeli stated that, "Journalism is not only learned through a course, but with the master-apprentice relationship. Newspapers should also benefit from universities. With this project we want to achieve both aspects," he said.
