Politics School by School of Government Leadership (HLO) covered current issues with important guests in its sixth week.
The first session started with Syria National Council Founder Member Mahmut Osman’s evaluation of the topic” “Latest Developments in Syria”. He started his speech by putting emphasize on how the Syrian government closes the areas of politics. He also added that, even the civil society organizations are forbidden and Syrian society do not have chance to express their opinions, so, after this social and political squeeze they are experiencing an explosion. Osman added that, in Syria the incidents initiated by the civilians but after Esad powers forced civilians to get armed.
In the second session Kocaeli Deputy Lütfü Türkkan put emphasize on the ‘Internet Law’. He expressed that the world changed by industrial, agricultural and communicational revolutions. In this point, Turkey is active in agricultural revolution but passive in industrial revolution and when we look at the internet usage per capita we are in a good position according to communicational revolution. However, he added that the ongoing debates for the internet law will be a censorship application for Turkey.
The third session on “Culture Politics and Culture Tourism” is made by Izmir Deputy and Former Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay. He expressed that Turkey is geographically a home for the oldest civilizations. In Turkey there are creations since 14 thousand years ago. Günay said that in the times when he was a Minister they have developed the archeology. He added that government didn’t spend enough money to archeology. At last he said that there is no oil in Turkey but there are too many precious monuments.
Bahcesehir University Professor Gökhan Yücel directed the fourth session, the topic “21st Century Educational Politics” evaluated and OECD Education and Capabilities Vice-Director Andreas Schleicher has attended. Yücel expressed that in 21st century pedagogy there are 4 important units; individualism, ability, digitalism and data based politics. Schleicher, talked about the aim of the Pisa exam and said that it is made to detect the people with different talents. He also added that the ones who have different talents, knowing more than ordinary knowledge and having the ability to do things other than doing it with computer have the change to find better jobs.
In the last session, Bahcesehir University Professor and Europe Assembly 5th term Deputy Ozan Ceyhun evaluated the topic “2014 is the year of Turkey for the European Union”. He said that; after 17th of December period there was no criticism about Turkey and in the Brussels event European Union representatives were wary. He added; on 25th of May 2014, there will be European Union Parliament election and supporters of Turkey will be elected. Also, European Union is positive about the decisions given on Cyprus.
