Bahçeşehir University has been awarded the Best Documentary award with “The River Flowing Westward”
MEDAM - Bahçeşehir University Civilization Study Center President, Prof. Dr. Bekir Karlığa, has been awarded the best documentary award in the Culture and Art field by the Office of the Turkish Presidency with “The River Flowing Westward” documentary.
“The River Flowing Westward” documentary, prepared by MEDAM with the contribution of Bahçeşehir University’s Communication Faculty, addresses Mesopotamia as the birthplace of civilization.
The long journey of humankind started in the rich and fertile Mesopotamia and Anatolia region twelve thousand years ago. The River Flowing Westward documentary presents this journey in an objective way for the first time.
By bringing together around 200 scientists’ visions from 16 countries and the most advanced computer graphics, dramatic representations of the cities and monuments of ancient times were recreated in this documentary. Consisting of 20 parts of 45 minutes each, the documentary is available in two versions, including long and short.
The Project, described as “the most comprehensive civilization documentary” by international opinion leaders and created as a response against the rising hostility towards the East and Islamic after the September 11 attacks, was launched in order to bring a more balanced perspective.
The documentary, supported by the Promotion Fund of the Turkish Prime Minister and undertaken by one of the UK’s largest production companies - Lion TV, has been broadcast on TRT 1 and other TV channels around the world.
